We have an update on a former Michigan State Police trooper accused of embezzlement.

Seth Swanson admitted to pocketing more than $170,000 in vehicle fees.

Swanson served as a state-certified salvage inspector in Royal Oak.

He forged documents and took the $100 fee from more than 1,700 inspections.

He'll be sentenced next month.

How long did he think he could get away with this scheme? I hope he takes a case of lubricant to prison with him because he's going to need it.

Congratulations to the Michigan State Police on their 100th anniversary this year.  That being said, I believe after 100 years of effectively self-policing their own activities, there needs to be an independent agency (w/o MSP conflict of interest) to resolve criminal/civil investigations that MSP troopers find themselves involved in.

As it stands, when one of them is caught doing something bad, they conduct the investigation, something I especially bemoaned in the Bill Marble case.  After finally securing some of the investigation at a hefty price, I had in my possession a video and a report that betrayed their public story.

When city police and county sheriff departments have conflicts, they typically use another department to investigate for the public to better believe they did a fair investigation, I have never heard of the MSP doing that, which is why I believe they will only become worse as time goes on, and why I distrust them.  Another contributing factor is that they avoid following the FOIA in many situations, charge illegal fees every time, and since 2013 have not really had to worry about it.

Watch him get a light sentence and fine too, right? This is what happens when like X says, the MSP police themselves, and think nothing about that being a conflict of interest. That Marble video sure looked great with the MSP loading their cars with guns, ammo, and other stolen articles from the home after the shooting too.

IHAN, the Marble video goes back a few years into LT's archives. Happened in the winter of 2012? or 13?

Here is the article which I submitted to Copblock.  I have shown more here at the Torch, you can go to the search feature in the upper right corner and enter the parameters, "bill marble".

I believe I have not yet published the full police report, if I can ever find the time, I would like to with proper context.
