If that letter is the real McCoy then that's what sunk him. He obviously is several bricks shy of a full load. If the letter was taken to be true and Sean admits it was an accident how in the World did the jury come up with Murder 2? Did the jury think that the letter was written to cover up a murder by claiming it was an accident. That would seem to be a far stretch by the jury. Was the prosecution that persuasive?

He definitely needs a "real Lawyer" in this fiasco. Maybe someone with the gonads will work pro-bono? Can only wait and see now. I assume sentencing will also come this coming week.

The 'confession' letter had been tested in 2014 and found to be Sean's writing, and Glancy had acceded the point after it was, and didn't attest it in court.

I found it a rather shocking verdict from what I saw, and yet I don't see an appeal being successful if Phillips' parents don't buy him a real lawyer.

I was pretty sure by Thurs, and early Fri. that the jury would be in with a mistrial or involuntary manslaughter verdict. This is not only Shocking, it's Unbelievable. I too am NOT on Sean's side, just the law as we all know it by cases and law books. Should be an easy case to appeal into the future imho. I saw the verdict on TV last night posted 7:12pm.

Agreed.
Thank you X for all your time on reporting, theorizing, interpreting, and commenting on this case. (And other crimes in this town)
IMO the public may never know what went down or where Kate ended up. If Sean knows of it or was covering up for any of it, that knowledge is what could of helped him. He had his chance to reveal it.
I truly hope and pray he can come clean with the truth for all the family's sake.

Brad, welcome to 2016 where you can get imprisoned for life for second degree murder by a jury of your peers when there isn't a body, isn't any forensic evidence that a murder has taken place, isn't any record of any past violent behaviors by the accused, isn't any hint of truth in a so-called confession letter, and there isn't any ill will or apparent ill motive expressed by the accused in the court record.

There are plenty of scenarios that fit the evidence and do not involve a murder, there is another historically violent and unstable person who had the baby for a much longer time and could have killed or adopted away the baby, there is very little time to have disposed of a body so that it could not be found in the timeline advanced, and there is plenty of evidence that points to adoption being actively considered up to the day Kate disappeared.

I am not a Sean Phillips apologist, I just do not like seeing people take the fall for a major crime that may not have even occurred.
tag:ludingtoncitizen.ning.com,2016-10-14:4689834:Comment:3373652016-10-14T18:04:52.153ZBradhttp://ludingtoncitizen.ning.com/profile/Brad

They've went out for lunch today downtown and have re-examined some exhibits. I have seen no hint that they are to be sequestered through the weekend. They have been breaking for the two days so far at reasonable hours, but it is also reasonable to believe that some in the jury might want to conclude deliberations so that they can get back to their regular routine next week after three weeks of pondering letters and baby seats.
