Does anyone know why Ryan Cox is no longer teaching at Ludington Area Schools? He is working at Home Depot now. The school district sent a letter to parents before school started saying Mr. Cox would not be teaching during the 2015/2016 school year. It seems like an interesting career move to go from a government job (teacher) to a retail employee.

I would like to see 5 minutes at the beginning of the meeting and 3-5 minutes at the end. The Council only meets twice a month and most meetings are very short with very few people speaking so it really isn't a matter of running late it's a matter of giving people a voice which so far has been abridged. Again, of course, if there are lots of people scheduled to talk then the amount of time can be reduced but as we all know that is as rare of an occurrence as is Democracy at City Hall.
It would be nice to see a question and answer portion of the meetings. I do however believe they should limit each person to 1 or 2 questions a meeting, but it would be nice to see. I believe the committee members have a responsibility to answer questions of the residents.
I am very curious about these tax breaks people on the committee have received over the fast years. I do however know my taxes have gone up over the past few years with zero changes to my residence.
There's three properties in Ludington owned by those who share my last name, in three separate wards. Each property's taxes has went up at least 50% over the time that Shay has been City Manager, this seems to be fairly common. Edgar's Struble three lots in the Fourth Ward have went up even more dramatically for no apparent reason.
But John Shay's property has went down 25% since 2003 when he moved here and Tykoski's has went down 40% since they purchased a house under odd conditions in 2010 (as noted way back in 2012 in Tye Tax , the taxes have remained low). It seems like there should be a reason, but it's been taken as a given at the last two meetings.
As a victim of libel myself by John Shay at a meeting in 2013, just after I 'prevailed' in my federal lawsuit, (see Public Lynching on a Private Individual by John Shay and Open Letter for Retraction of Statements by Ludington City Manager ...) I am concerned about the perception of that here.
Shay made these comments at the end of an open meeting where I had no recourse other than to sit and take them. It was recorded and put in the minutes, minutes that were unanimously approved at the next meeting. Shay never retracted the false and misleading information, and this displays the content of his character, which more and more people are beginning to see.
His actions causes the city to lose over $30,000 in legal costs alone in settling a federal lawsuit, he lashes out right afterwards with comments covering false and malicious personal attacks, not public policy, at the end of a public meeting, which could have made the city and its citizens liable for more damages by defamation. If you don't denounce what he did, then you should have no problem with anything that has been put out here about what Mayor Cox has been rumored to have done.
Because frankly, the grapevine is filled with these rumors especially among the younger crowd, and much of the hearsay is contradictory and likely false. If Mayor Cox wants to keep the public in the dark forever, he is not obligated to share with the public what may be his and/or his wife's personal life. But they are public figures, and whatever has occurred has lowered the dignities of both in their respective positions.
It would be interesting to see if there is an ongoing investigation by the City, County or State Police. I believe this wouldn't be a crime you can hide due to the fact the child's family would be involved. I may be wrong but I would think the family would have to file charges or wouldn't have a choice?
My ongoing investigation and impression is that if there is some scandal involved, it is not in the nature to require a police investigation. Impropriety seems to be involved, but nothing illegal.
"Lowering the dignities of the position"? Like the Mayorship? That's what I've been talking about ALL the TIME! Funny, some just get it now, at last......hmmm, who's covering for whom? And to what degree, lesser, or more? Time will tell I do guess, eh? Well RTalk, do tell us now at long last, eh?
