Mozilla CEO resigns, opposition to gay marriage drew fire

This story is all too scary as far as I'm concerned. The only known fact is that Mr Eich donated $1000 in support of traditional marriage. To many pro gay marriage supporters, because of this he is labeled as a homophobe..... a word that I think is thrown out in these conversations to often and most of the time without knowing what the definition really is. Because a person believes in traditional marriage, I don't think it necessarily makes a person a homophobe... I think it just means that they believe marriage is between a man and a woman... just as our president believed up til the last election cycle. Many people have a religious reason for believing what they do as well. Be that as it may though, there are many people that while they might not agree with the gay lifestyle, don't hate anyone that is gay... they simply go on with their life and individuals that are gay go on with their lives as well. God knows the number of guys out there that while they have no interest in watching 2 guys engage in activities generally relegated to the bedroom are all for having an enjoyable evening with a couple women... or at least watching 2 women engage in activities. Two women together is no less gay then watching 2 men. Anyhow, no one seemed to want to bother to ask this guy if he even still felt the same way then what he did 6 years ago and it should be noted that I really haven't heard where he ever showed any sort of malice toward anyone that was employed under him, regardless of their skin color, sexuality or anything else.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Mozilla Chief Executive Brendan Eich has stepped down, the company said on Thursday, after an online dating service urged a boycott of the company's web browser because of a donation Eich made to opponents of gay marriage.

The software company came under fire for appointing Eich as CEO last month. In 2008, he gave money to oppose the legalization of gay marriage in California, a hot-button issue especially at a company that boasts about its policy of inclusiveness and diversity.

"We didn't act like you'd expect Mozilla to act," wrote Mozilla Executive Chairwoman Mitchell Baker in a blog post. "We didn't move fast enough to engage with people once the controversy started. We're sorry."

The next step for Mozilla's leadership "is still being discussed," she added, with more information to come next week.

While gay activists applauded the move, many in the technology community lamented the departure of Eich, who invented the programming language Javascript and co-founded Mozilla.

"Brendan Eich is a good friend of 20 years, and has made a profound contribution to the Web and to the entire world," venture capitalist Marc Andreessen tweeted.

Eich donated $1,000 in 2008 in support of California's Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in the state until it was struck down by the Supreme Court in June.

His resignation came days after OkCupid.com, the popular online dating site, called for a boycott of Mozilla Firefox to protest the world's No. 2 Web browser naming a gay marriage opponent as chief executive.

On Monday, OkCupid sent a message to visitors who accessed the website through Firefox, suggesting they use browsers such as Microsoft Corp's Internet Explorer or Google Inc's Chrome.

"Mozilla's new CEO, Brendan Eich, is an opponent of equal rights for gay couples," the message said. "We would therefore prefer that our users not use Mozilla software to access OkCupid."

If it wasn't for the fact that so many people would loose their jobs, I would like to see Mozilla crash and burn for being so easily swayed by leftist Nazis. Politicians have been lying since the dawn of politics. The real problem is the people. They believe whatever politicians say instead of discovering the truth for themselves. Unfortunately we are a Country of mindless stooges. What else could explain how  people like Obama, Pelosi, Reed and even Bohner can be reelected to office over and over.

The most shocking sickness being visited on most conservatives today in America is the liberals pouncing on anyone whom disagrees with their opinions and/or politically correct statements and attitudes. Be awful careful what you say in public these days, or you will be branded with libel and slanderous assaults to the hilt, including a collusive media. This will not only lead to public embarasment and scrutiny, but possible loss of job, loss of respect by your peers, and loss of reputation. All this because of the ranting and raving of the minority of cuckoos. The ability to debate ideas in the arena of thought with respect and accountability, these days are now long gone. Except hopefully, for the Torch, where we hope to continue a tradition of exchanges/debate with cordial posts.
