Driver not hurt, Helmet worn, Speed may be a factor

I am happy to say that the rash of BMP accidents at the beginning of the season, either dwindled down during the latter part of the summer or were reported less often at the top of the news.  But a Hart man was seriously injured in an accident where an older lady turned in front of him as she was getting into her driveway.  Motorcyclists are invisible and often hard to hear inside a car as it is, when you're older it is even easier to not sense them coming down the road.  A motorcyclist cannot stop on a dime, so take a little extra time... to make sure.  Let's hope the minivan's owner is at least fined for her inattention to detail.

HART TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A man is in critical condition after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a minivan in Oceana County.

Ritchie Scouten, 72, from Hart was driving her minivan south on N. Water Road, north of W. Filmore Road in Hart Township.

She tried turning into her driveway when a northbound motorcycle ridden by Anthony Bohunicky, 26, from Shelby struck her vehicle on the rear passenger side, police said.

Bohunicky's motorcycle then crossed the road and came to rest in a ditch. He was wearing a helmet.

Deputies arrived at 10:08 p.m. Wednesday and saw Bohunicky suffering from apparent head trauma and having difficulty breathing. Deputies tended to his injuries until EMS personnel arrived.

He was taken to Hackley Lakeshore Hospital in Shelby where Aero Med transported him to a Grand Rapids hospital.

Scouten was not hurt.

Speed is suspected as a factor in this crash, police said.
