Three Prosecutors Race for Circuit Court Judgeship in Mason County

The Good

First to enter the race for the 51st Circuit Court judge, being vacated by Judge Richard I Cooper, who is facing a forced retirement due to state laws based on age (state-sponsored ageism?), was current City of Ludington criminal attorney, FOIA Coordinator, and private attorney Susan Kasley Sniegowski.  Her entry as the good does not signify that she is pure, much like Clint Eastwood's role in the classic movie.

She served as Mason County Prosecutor from 2005 to 2008, being ousted by the second contender after she gave him a forced retirement from her own prosecutor office for alleged insubordination.   This could make for an interesting judge race!  Here's more of her history:  http://www.masoncountypress.com/2014/03/31/sniegowski-announces-cir....  Which brings us to...

The Bad

Paul Spaniola was next to enter the race, hoping to turn his prominence in the news by prosecuting some high profile cases into a tour behind the bench.  He entered earlier today, and he is put down as the bad not just for being the second to enter the race.  I have asked Mr. Spaniola for help on various issues concerning illegal activity by the City of Ludington, and his replies seem to indicate that he serves as their defense attorney as well.

Worse, when he was supposed to be investigating voter disenfranchisement against me, he decided to libel me on public documents, and totally messed up the investigation.  For others, he let William Marble's killer off without any problem.  William Marble was spied upon by a prowler who came to his door with a drawn gun just before midnight, and shot Marble dead.  Marble had done nothing aggressive, and was not warned before he was shot.  The trooper was the member of a group, the Michigan State Police, who gave him a special award a couple of months later.

Several people, a couple who have been chronicled here (Todd Johnson, Fred Lewis), have been robbed of their good name and fair justice because of actions by this prosecutor to pad his conviction rate.  Now he wants to do the same as a judge-- here's his biography and a less critical history:  http://www.masoncountypress.com/2014/04/18/spaniola-announces-judge...

And before the ink hit the paper for Spaniola declaring came the third candidate whom we will call...

The Ugly

This is not a personal attack against this candidates appearance (Eli Wallach wasn't that unhandsome in the classic movie) but more of a statement of his past.  Craig Richard Cooper is the son of current Judge Richard Cooper.  He currently serves as prosecutor for Oceana County, being elected to the position in 2012 after serving as an assistant prosecutor, and as attorney for the City of Ludington.

He infamously came forward and served on the City's defense team when they were being sued for FOIA violations, and wasn't acknowledged to be on the legal team for the City while his father was judge of the case for over four months.  Both Coopers were required by judicial canons and the State Bar to immediately notice this appearance of impropriety immediately.  Here are more of his qualification and his history:  http://www.masoncountypress.com/2014/04/18/cooper-hopes-to-take-his...

I have to agree with X and Aquaman especially about his age. A 35 year old does not have the experience or "wisdom" to pass judgement in a court of law, in my opinion. Add that to the fact that his degree is in political science only tells me that his agenda and motivations are political.

I'm not necessarily proposing Glancy isn't experienced enough. From streeter's case alone, it sounds like he may have had some good experience around here, is successful, and has grit, all needed for the job. He is also a western Michigander, not another Oakland Countyer. I don't believe that a good candidate will stoop to being too dirty and divisive during a campaign, as it's not the best strategy in most cases. Voters like a candidate above that sort of behavior. As for porn streeter, it's posted all over the internet, day and nite, 24/7. I don't see the relevance of seeing it at the Torch to make some point about knocking down the LDN. You say a female dressed in cowboy boots, otherwise totally nude, isn't porn? I guess you lost me there, if not porn, then I say nudity without an artful nor germane purpose, okay? Since the candidates are all accounted for, my vote would be for #4 as it stands now.

If truth be known I would choose him over the other 3 only because he has been a non factor in how people have been mistreated in the area by law enforcement and the courts and besides he hasn't had any involvement with the Councils horrendous behavior. Unless there is bad press targeted toward him I think he has a good chance of winning.

streeter, you can disguise, coverup, make phony excuses, and conjure up all the people that say that it's art that you want to. For me anyhow, sleazy is sleazy, no matter how you cut it, or how many youths today say it's okay and normal. How is it sooo germane to this thread? America as I knew it growing up may have been a little puritan and innocent, but it sure wasn't creepy and sleazy like today. Maybe that's half the reason the country is so upside down now. No values or standards for life, just do it!

I really don't know how to vote.  I know that when Spaniola was in Muskegon not many liked him, and I was going to be fair though.  Until I had some difficulty when a man came within inches from my head with the bucket of a payloader type of vehicle and when I wanted him arrested for attempted assault, Spaniola would not process it at all.  He would not give any reasons why, the police even submitted it twice and he refused it both times.  I guess he must have been friends with the person who attempted to assault me?  No, I would not vote for him.  I didn't even own the property when this problem occurred, but it was turned from an assault case to a land dispute thing since the problem was between the two people who had the land.  I had called the police over my issue not land.  I was out there to try to watch that things did not get out of control since that was one of my professions that I had my degree in at Western Michigan University.  My rights were taken away from me by him.  It was as if the prosecutors office raped my rights away, when they were suppose to be non biased and do their job.  If a man comes with a rake and goes to hit a police officer it would be assault charges he would be prosecuted for, yet 2 inches from my head and it is ignored.  Who does he work for?  NO I WILL VOTE for Spaniola, I would vote for any of the others first.

The sad thing with Spaniola is that if he fails in the primaries or general election, he is still going to be the prosecutor of Mason County, and in either case, the people lose.  Spaniola, in my assessment which involves trying to have his necessary assistance in order to correct some of the corruption that is so obvious in the City of Ludington and trying to get FOIA requests, has no interest in law and justice, only pleasing his clique of people which includes  public officials of the state, county and city he deals with.

He perverts the meaning of the law to empower the government, strip rights from the people much like the City Attorneys from Manistee the City hired five years ago.   Even though they all have flaws, I cannot say that about any of the other three attorneys.  It's not what a judge elected by the people should be involved in.
