This is going to be an important cause for the people of America. This is going to define and sharpen the divide that exists between Conservatives and leftist Marxists in this Country. The fact that it started at a sports event is somewhat surprising though. Disrespecting by not standing for the National Anthem spread throughtout the NFL over the weekend. An action first taken by  Kaepernick the NFL quarterback last year. Trump felt it necessary to comment on the protest last weekend when over 200 players refused to stand for the pledge. I totally agree with Trump

One of the claims by the athletes is that they have a Constitutional right to say what they think. That may be true when it comes to Government control but it does not apply to the corporate world. Employees of private companies such as  NFL players, cannot hide behind the first amendment. If the owners of the franchises wanted to fire them for not standing during the National Anthem they would have every right to do so. So this is not a Constitutional issue regarding freedom of speech.

As Lewis Maltby, president of the National Workrights Institute states "Freedom of speech is protected by the First Amendment — but only where the government is concerned.

"What most Americans generally don't know is that the Constitution doesn't apply to private corporations at all."

The NFL and franchise owners should put there collective feet down and nip this in the bud. The NFL, owners and players are the useful idiots of the left and they don't even realize it.

This last video explains how NFL teams kneeled for the National Anthem during a game in London England then stood for God Save the Queen.

"What most Americans generally don't know is that the Constitution doesn't apply to private corporations at all."

What an assinine statement. That may be true in some areas but get your facts straight.

Pitt, that is a quote from Lewis Maltby, president of the National Workrights Institute  which is an advocate group  for workers rights. Email him if you think he's wrong.

Thanks Willy, I also agree with Trump too! FIRE the SOB's, and end all this nonsense. There are hundreds of other players in the wings waiting for a chance to play, and make big money too.

I agree Aquaman. They should sh_t can these players and let the second stringers take over just like in the 2000 move "The Replacements". The football game would still be fun to watch.

IHaveANotion. This demonstration is not about police brutallity or how unfairly blacks are treated. This is a movement by the left to diminish the importance of football to Americans. The players are to dumb to understand they are working against their own interests. Yes there exist police malpractice but anyone with a brain stem understands that disrespecting the flag is completely stupid way to get your point across. It makes no sense to alienate millions of Americans. So the real reason for all of this to let white people know that they are racists and bigots and will always be until the Constitution is trashed and a new form of government replaces the existing one. This may sound like a conspiracy theory but if we read about history and previous attempts to over throw governments then it becomes obvious what is really taking place. The left has used the blacks as a musician uses a violin. They are being played. The left has been behind every negative influence in this Country for the last 200 years. From slavery and the Ku Klux Klan to planned parenthood. All has been created to keep the black embroiled. The Democrat Party now mirrors communism. This situation with the NFL may seem frivolous or a passing demonstration to many but it is only the tip of an ice berg that is being used to fundamentally  change America or destroy it.

Not NFL but I was just wondering what's going to happen when one or more of our high school ball players pull this bull shit. Is there a policy in place? has the school board even thought about it? What will happen when one of our town students makes the national news by not only disgracing our country , but our city as well. Someone better alert the school on this.

Good point stump.

This was an issue I was wanting to address in some way, I thank Willy for starting the discussion and arguing it in a way similarly to how I would have.  I would add an important point, the NFL is heavily subsidized by American taxpayers, and has been for awhile.  In researching this point for this post, I noticed a Daily Signal article that notes:

"This fiasco may, however, open the eyes of the public to a serious and generally unchecked issue: billionaire NFL owners sponging enormous amounts of money from taxpayers through crony capitalist schemes.

The fact is that a business that raked in $14 billion in revenue in 2016 is heavily subsidized by local, state, and federal money based on dubious claims about stimulating the economy.

One report on Watchdog.org said that over the past two decades, the NFL has raked in about $7 billion of taxpayer money to spend on stadium renovation and building.

Another study from the Brookings Institution showed that federal taxpayers have subsidized the construction of 36 stadiums at a cost of over $3.2 billion since 2000."

If these owners want to collude in these protests, which they have began doing to spite President Trump, why subsidize this any further?  Why give billionaire owners tax-exempt status, when we are talking tax reform?  They have got this funding under misconceived economic development ideals, maybe it's time they give it back with interest, with their ticket and television revenues steadily declining because of the highly unpopular protests in the escapist entertainment known as professional football.  I will not watch another pro game until the NFL makes a statement such conduct will not be performed during game time.

If Kaepernick and other millionaire footballers want to make a statement about unfair treatments of minorities, do it on your own time, there are plenty of media that would love to broadcast your grievances.  There are a lot more people just there to spend hundreds of dollars to watch a game and take a break from their normal life.

Very good point X and one that I had not thought about. Hitting the NFL in their collective pocketbooks is an excellent way to get all of these spoiled players and owners to rethink this situation. As for me, I"m done with the NFL, unless this madness stops and there comes forth a sincere apology from those involved with holding football fans as a captive audience to their arrogant political views. Hello Semi pro and Canadian football.

What should happen here is that Donald Trump should have a red hot iron applied to his tongue for insulting so many Mothers.

Freedom of speech....

This is going to be a freedom of religion issue.

10 will get u 20 all of those good Americans are Christians and their faith states;

 Matthew 5:34
But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne;

and...

James 5:12

Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple "Yes" or "No." Otherwise you will be condemned.

 If standing during this oath of allegiance to the flag is a requirement, it indicates agreement, submission and/or acquiescence to it's tenets by the requirement of standing.

 Donald Trump can blow it out his ass

So Pitt Viper your saying you have never stood for the nation anthem, said the pledge of allegiance ?  Your just a fart in the wind , gone in 60 seconds on this issue.
