Governor Brown Makes California A Sanctuary State

California Gov. Jerry Brown announced Thursday his signature of a bill that makes the entire state a sanctuary for illegal immigrants.

The legislation Brown signed, referred to as the California Values Act, greatly restricts law enforcement’s ability to locate and detain suspects of illegal immigrants in numerous ways.

Police and sheriffs in the state will be barred from asking individuals about their immigration status. The new law also blocks local agencies from cooperating with detainer requests from federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

The restriction will undoubtedly deal a huge blow to ICE procedures in California. Around 65 percent of deportations around the country are a result of cooperation between local and state law enforcement and federal Customs and Border Protections and ICE officers.

The sanctuary law also requires health facilities, schools and court houses to develop their own procedures on restricting immigration enforcement that could possibly take place on their property.

Under the law, federal immigration officers will still be permitted to interview suspects in the custody of local California law enforcement, but they will not be permitted to maintain permanent office space in local jails or state prisons.

Liberal cities across the country have already begun to pass sanctuary measures for illegal immigrants, but the move by Brown makes California the first entire state to offer such protections to undocumented immigrants residing in the country. Around 35 cities in California are already embracing the “sanctuary” label.

The California state legislature, overwhelmingly controlled by Democratic lawmakers, passed the California Values Act in September. Brown had long been expected to sign the measure.

The bill that ultimately landed on Brown’s desk was a moderated version of what was first drawn up by its prime sponsor, state Senate President Kevin de Leon. As the legislation made its way through both chambers, it was vehemently protested by California Police Chiefs Association, Republican sheriffs and other law enforcement groups. It passed through the California state Senate by a party line vote.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has described the measure as “unconscionable.”

The next question to ask is, "will the American taxpayers be picking up the tab for all of the illegals that will be flooding into California because we all know that California is broke?" Leftists are a disease to a free country. They infect and disable governments where ever they can. I feel sorry for the conservative citizens who live in California as they watch their beautiful State disintegrate.

If you GOOGLE : cost of illegal immigrants in California , it's mind boggling  why anyone would want them in their state , county or city.

Maybe there's a secret plan to have all the illegals to come to California ,then build a wall there blocking them in. Trump should be on this and stop all federal monies to that state completely. Same with the big cities that offer the sanctuary status to illegal immigrants. Who's going to pull the wagon when everyone wants to ride?   Look in the mirror, it's you.

Hopefully this is satire and you aren't really this dumb.

Luft, there's nothing funny about what's going on in California and the rest of the Country. Harboring and aiding illegals is serious business especially when politicians take it upon themselves to govern against  the peoples wishes.

IHaveANotion. What exactly is your complaint about the topic? You obviously got your feelings hurt somehow by my comments. If your skins that thin, what are you doing on the internet? By the way what have you heard that's come out of my mouth? This is a written media not vocal. So if your that sensative and you want to banter with me then you had better be ready to shed some tears because I don't take crap from anybody, even you.

MSP Director Kriste Kibbey Etue recently posted a meme on Facebook that effectively said those who took a knee in the NFL were 'degenerates' and has come under fire for the comment even after apologizing to those offended.

While I don't think the word choice was appropriate (degenerate used as a noun is an immoral or corrupt person, protesting in itself does not make one a degenerate, running an unaccountable police agency just might), I don't think her personal opinion should get her fired as many do, some of who will march on MSP headquarters on Monday, expressing their opinion as is their right.

We all express ourselves in the forum, and sometimes others perceive them differently than how we meant them to be.  So I would suggest that since I know both Willy and IHAN are reasonable people in pursuit of many similar and virtuous goals in their lives, that they fix any perceived differences between themselves by communicating outside of the forum pages.  We all misjudge things every now and then.  Send a diplomatic message and fix the gaps in your understanding of each other, you may even become friends and can pool your talents towards the greater good.

I agree with you on Kriste Kibbey X. Your other concern is not my concern as long as comments from others are directed towards the topic and not the poster. If that happens then all is well in Ludville.

Another wonderful liberal attack on Federal Law and Policy protecting U.S.citizens from illegal immigration. I guess our Attrny. General will be forced to try to block and cancel this in numerous court actions for years to come. Meanwhile, any and all Federal funding for Cal. should be stopped immediately. Sad case of the Liberal crowd gone wild, and not going to get any better out there. Good luck Cal. citizens, you just dropped over the edge of reasonableness for the last time now.

What California is proposing is akin to the South leaving the Union and for the same reasons. Except California version is to have a class of people as "walking slaves" (and yes the reference to a walking taco is intentional and inevitable).

You could isolate California by controlling a few mountain passes. It is not necessary to wall off the entire state. Toss in a naval embargo much like Kennedy did to Cuba (again intentional).

It they wish to secede you could also eliminate their water supply.  Cut off their supply from the Colorado river system and destroy a few dams within California itself.

Then sit back and watch the fun.

After it is over drop California's status back to a territory until they learn to behave themselves by not electing idiots.

I love your reasoning. The problem is that if California left the Union they would probably hook up with Mexico. Can you imagine the looks on all the illegals faces when they wake up and discover that California has joined with Mexico and they are literally, back in Mexico. No more freebies. I guess New York is next.

Personally Willy I believe Cuba would be a better fit for California than Mexico.
