Exactly one week after Valentine's Day, City of Ludington Daily News (COLDNews) Managing Editor Patti Klevorn couldn't wait to report the good news that Ludington City Manager John Shay wasn't going to be moving to Holland Township and force her to lose her best city hall reporter:

I admire that she resisted the temptation to headline the column "Shay to Stay, Yay!"  But in reporting what seems to lead to a sigh of relief for her and other crony loyalists of the city chief executive, she offered up news that was far from accurate.  The Holland Township Board did not select Steve Bulthuis last night, they didn't even have a meeting last night.

The selection subcommittee of that board last night voted unanimously to recommend Executive Director of the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council Steve Bulthuis to the board of trustees. This will be voted on by the full Holland Township Board at a special meeting 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at the township offices, 353 N. 120th Ave.  Bulthuis apparently has the three votes of the trustees in the committee and their recommendation, but there are still four other votes, not to mention these committee members could change their mind at the Saturday meeting.

This version of the facts is corroborated by local sources in the Holland area representing print, TV and radio media:  The Holland SentinelWHTC, and Van 92.7 .  The local MCP even has it right:  Shay likely to stay as Ludington city manager.  The only one with false news is the ever-loyal COLDNews, with the managing editor needing her own managing editor in this instance.

To broadcast the bogus, she quotes John Shay:  "It was meant to be.  Ludington's a great community.  This is the one place we've truly called home."  He's never asked the question:  "So then why are you trying to leave after you've saddled us with so much debt, have looming deficits, and your new job, when you count benefits, is paying you roughly the same as you are getting now?"

Nope, let's not ask that question; instead let's ask the only other person in town with a greater Shay-love than Patti, Mayor Kaye Holman, about how much he would have been missed here in Ludington-- if the Holland Township committee hadn't noticed his track record.

Lol

The current city council doesn't have the courage and intelligence to fire Shyster Shay even if he was caught in a felony action, they are dumbed-down and brainwashed by the Shyster all the way. Besides, he does most of their duties for them, then just passes along the recommendation to pass ordinances. City employees should not only wake up to the fact that the COL is going into over $30 Million in debt alone for infrastructure, the city pension plan is also unfunded to the tune of $11 Million. How can current & future retirees get guaranteed checks in retirement if that's the case now? HOW? The Shyster would have been fired long ago if he was in a town with a council that knew what they were doing, sadly, that's not the case here.

Good or bad say what you will about Henderson as mayor but he was the LAST true elected official that actually did anything, after him it all went to a guy no one could vote out!

Henderson started out okay, and was fairly productive. That all changed after a while, chased out CM Miller, then went on an arrogant rant of new ordinances that were worthless. Hired Shyster Shay? Cat & bird ordinances? Workplace safety policy? Raising taxes, rates, fees, marina spending out of control? Then he tried to get a ballot proposal passed to let him keep the Mayor's chair for up to 20 years! Got X fired from Dow for making public council mtg. comments negative and exposing illegalities? C'mon now!

Agree to your add to what I said! Bottom line he COULD be voted out. Shay can not. True Henderson went to the dark side to the extreme, but he was the last one that had a backbone, imo! No one will challenge Shay. And at this point they should all be searching for a replacement! His Holland attempt is proof he is looking to leave. How can we trust the captain that wanted to jump ship?

The title of this topic should be "COLD news Editor Celebrates premature Shay-elation".

A missed opportunity by me, Willy.  Heather Tykoski, the SWAC fraud princess, was on WMOM this morning with AJ sharing their own Shay-elations.  People like them and Mayor Holman experiencing schadenfreude in that they're feeling pleased over John Shay's career advancement misfortune, is the very definition of mental illness.

You learn quite a bit by listening in on Fridays and finding out that the West End Project was supposedly a citizen-driven project 13 years ago as told by AJ and Heather, but that's pure myth.  Progressive AE, an architect firm, was given $51,320 on Sept. 25, 2006 for the drawings of unexplained West End improvements that they received a $50,000 grant for (after applying in March 14 2005).  It was first discussed publicly at a special work session meeting in 8-31-2004, this was a bit after an admission in the 3-22-2004 LCC meeting minutes that the Waterfront Committee had been working on a vision.  That committee was undoubtedly led by a hyperactive-at-the-time Mayor Henderson and new City Manager Shay.

The West End never was a grassroots effort, AJ and Heather, it's a costly experiment for exploitation of an area that is special to many.  Maintain it, but don't otherwise mess with the natural beauty.

That's one of the biggest problems in Ludville these days. The media keeps interviewing people that are serial liars, and then it's published to the public as real facts. So what's the unknowing public supposed to think? I think WMOM and LDN/MCP should have some interviews of rebuttals to these type things, that way some truths and common sense might just start getting around the grapevine. But will they? I know I participated in the "my opinion" or whatever at the LDN when Begnoche was there. He highly edited my statement before publishing it, else he wouldn't print it. And I was polite and truthful, but, that just doesn't seem to fit into their program and agenda anymore.

Same experiences for me, Aquaman.  I am working on an article dealing with the very topic of how our media will unquestioningly print false material (i.e. fake news) if it's related by our 'respected' officials.  I have dealt with these guys often enough to know that they will either fight dirty (lie, cheat and use their position) to get their way or block facts/contrary evidence from coming out.

As far as the west end project is concerned, if this was/is a citizen driven project then why was it not put on the ballot so the citizens could vote on it. So much bullsh_t is created by these damn politicians and biased media that the EPA should check them for excessive methane emissions.

I annually asked that very same question.  They know it would lose, and badly, once the costs and details were made known.  Is that Shay I see in the picture hanging-between Ludington officials and the media, or is that him peeking out below?
