Patti Klevorn, the managing editor of the City of Ludington Daily News (COLDNews) for almost the last two years is laterally transferring over to Epworth according to the recently noticed article Managing Editor to Take on New Career.

An unspecified interim managing editor has yet to be named following the decision by Klevorn to become director of communications and marketing for the small vacation community of Epworth after retiring from the editor job on April 13, just a day short of the decision by the COLDNews to hire her for the managing editor job in 2016, after working in some capacity for the newspaper for 23 years.

COLDNews Publisher Ray McGrew, Patti Klevorn, and former Managing Editor Steve Begnoche in 2016

COLDNews publisher Ray McGrew, managing editor of Shoreline Media since 2015 had kind words for the departing Klevorn, as did others in the article, and Klevorn expressed a bittersweet regret in the career move.

We at the Ludington Torch are hopeful that Klevorn's replacement will be a step upward from the general direction the newspaper has taken over the last decade, where the previous managing editor led it into being known more as a progressively leaning propaganda mill for the area's elites rather than a source of useful and factual information geared to the interests of the locals.  In our estimation, Klevorn made some progress, but not nearly enough to bring the newspaper back into the relevancy it should have as the area's lone newspaper.  We wish her good luck and happiness in her decision.

We cannot help but believe that the recent elite-sponsored hit-piece on the owners and residents of Carr Manor, which led to a strange follow-up story this weekend (see Carr Manor has history as rooming house ) may have been contributory to the move.

I agree' She lost her mind on the Carr Manor Post. Showing her true dull colors. The best thing that could happen to the LDN propaganda factory would be to bulldoze it and put a fountain there with a sign that says, "Don't drink the water". That corner is forever contaminated to eternity, and beyond.

" I really appreciate all the hard work that goes into the LDN each day with complete fairness and accuracy of reporting in the community". Really? Hope she's getting a raise in pay? Well, Shyster Shay, maybe you should look into this, if you can afford to come down in pay. Meanwhile, Mr. McGrew will be doing a "national search" to replace Klevorn, not promoting any local from within the organization, but bring in someone NOT from Ludington. That too should work well, just like Begnoche, from San Antonio, Tx..

Since the writer of the Carr Manor articles, Kevin Brasiczeski, is still holding his job, I am inclined to believe that the city officials who demanded the hit piece on Carr Manor made Patti's job a living hell after the initial smear had the reverse effect they were looking for.  I doubt Kevin had much say as to what would be put in the article; he has historically been used to toe the line and print what officials want when other COLDNews reporters would have too much integrity.

If that analysis is close to the truth, unfortunately, you are never likely to hear about it, but it does make me respect Patti's decision.

Or maybe she decided to move on because she finally found out about the four registered sex offenders working at the COLDNews, LOL.

Right X, it surely back-fired on the LDN, and wonder who really hired those four employees? Was it Klevorn herself? Either way, she's responsible at the end, and I'll bet she was asked to alter course before being dumped.

I'll say one thing for Patti, she has certainly aged well. I haven't seen any photos of her in years and she looks almost as young as she did back when. Begonche on the other hand looks like he was dug up from the La Brea tar pits. Just kidding Steve. There has to be more to this then the Carr story. I think she is fed up with small town politics and the balancing act the paper had to do by keeping their advertisers happy while holding hands with politicians. In my opinion running a small town paper is more difficult than running a large city newspaper, just because everyone knows everyone. I don't know why she would work for the snobbish Epworth organization. I like John's idea of sanitizing the corner where the LDN calls home. Maybe if all the members of the Torch were to chip in 5 bucks each we could buy the LDN and hire X to run it. Then Ludington would get the real news.

She has aged well, but anybody running the COLDNews as it currently is cannot afford a conscience, which I believe made this decision the best way out for her.  I wouldn't suggest that the Carr Manor story was exclusively why Patti felt the need to move on, but I think the politics involved behind it led to a tipping point from her perspective in her career.  I only wish the main city official allegedly involved behind the Carr Manor story had a conscience, and changed her career too.

I'm guessing her departure has something to do with the fact that the newspaper industry is dying and she can see the light at the end of the tunnel. As a younger woman, she needs to look at her future and do what is best for her career and her family. And the 24/7 nature of the news business likely takes her away from her family more than she'd like.  I personally believe this is a huge loss for the Ludington Daily News.

With all due respect to Klevorn supporters, please name her 3 most important accomplishments while at the LDN, both as editor, and as reporter, thanks.

The loss for the LDN is that they are incapable of the truth WonderWoman. Not even your lasso could save them. This is so entrenched and cyclical that preserving it would only push them deeper into the abyss.

I've known Patti since waaaay back when. Always beautiful, fun, outgoing and a true heart. Her love for people of all classes was always big but, I think over time trying to save face in this town and trying to climb she eventually reached a stair that clashed and it divided her spirit. She couldn't maintain that support for others who weren't among the elite. Van Halen 1984... The Hideout... The Cliffs... FM Hilll...   I wish her come back was of the REAL Patti...

That's a nice gesture JDJ. I talked with her in person and by phone a couple of times. It was about the old news of ousting of a local from the city hall, against his Constitutional rights in the USA. She did not sound apologetic nor of interest to facts, just the fictional statements of a city mgr. whom was controlling the media statements by her and others. Great reporters get their facts straight from the scene, all affected by it, and reality, not statements that are prepared in advance for political uses. That's my experience anyhow, and it wasn't good. I still haven't witnessed even one major accomplishment by anyone yet.

Unfortunately, she became them. She had such integrity too. She could have been the one to change it all, but she chose the shorter road with the deer and the flowers.
