I found it interesting that Steve Miller spoke at a partisan event considering he is running for a non-partisan position. Even more interesting is Miller's comment (see quote below from the LDN) about what he believes the mayor's job is:  “The mayor of Ludington has to convince seven counselors what is best for the city.” I beg to differ, Mr. Miller.  It's not the mayor's job to convince counselors to do anything! Each of those seven counselors should be receiving their marching orders from their constituents; not the mayor, city manager or other members of the council. That comment makes it clear that Miller has no idea how democracy works.  Are there any other candidates interested in running for mayor?

LUDINGTON MAYOR

Mayoral candidate Steve Miller also spoke to the crowd Saturday. Miller said he's not affiliated with any political party, but was grateful to the Mason County Democrats for inviting him to share his ideas.

He credited his father for showing him the importance of being active in the community through his time with the Elks club. And, Miller said, part of the reason he’s running for mayor is to set a similar example for his two sons.

Miller said he is a trained negotiator and presenter, and his career in hospitality, food management and sales has provided him experience in getting people to change what they’re doing in order to be successful. He said he likes to institute a business practice he calls the three “P’s” — people, product, process.

“I like to analyze each one of them and fix them individually, and you will end up with a better product,” Miller said.

“I need to know what you don’t like more than what you do like,” he added.

Miller graduated from Ludington High School in 1972. He moved back here about three years ago after living and working in southeast Michigan for 42 years. He works in business development and sales and marketing at radio station WMOM.

“I want to do it because I honestly believe I can fix things,” Miller said about his candidacy. “The mayor of Ludington has to convince seven counselors what is best for the city.”

Good points. Aquaman is right on the money regarding that the Mayor must live full time in the City. Escaping to Hamlin, if that is in fact what she is doing, must be addressed. If the Mayor resides out of the City most of the time then it's resignation time for her and I hope someone is keeping tabs on her because when there are City officials costing the taxpayers untold thousands of dollars on needless lawsuits, unfair dissemination of contract work, publicly humiliating citizens who raise concerns about unethical behavior and a whole host of anti citizen projects at taxpayers expense, the citizens of Ludington deserve to have representatives who follow the laws. If that means keeping tabs on how they act and where they live then so be it. As far as I'm concerned the whole bunch of scoundrels need to be tethered with GPS trackers.

Very good points Willy, and thanks for the proper points that apply here, it's sad, but must be addressed in what is happening and not just reported by the LDN false facts. Fake News is not only happening, but seems most prominent nowadays. That is totally against the First Amendment which calls for real truths, and they don't have that instinct and ethics to do so at all now. Freedom of the Press is truth, and investigative journalists whom stick to that code, and have to by the Constitution to obey by that, not what their political whims declare as absolute.

You are truly hitting the nail on the head about infrastructure and debt problems in the city, plus the fiasco to the Fourth Ward marina owners.  These actions are inexcusable, but we must live with them now.  Communications of city officials to public who offer an opposing view is atrocious, and the Workplace safety act upon XLFD should have cost them a lot more if he hadn't settled but they don't care because they misuse big-city attorneys to cover up wrongdoing like they are free.  The originators of that WSP should have been canned for their wrongdoing and for carrying on the same attitude still.  I don't think this city will heal until their attitude toward the public is changed.  Continuing the cronyism in the city is not helping.  What mayoral candidate can best heal this and promote public interaction and transparency?
