Stand with President Obama: End Tax Breaks for Billionaires and Big Oil

Another fine example of how low political campaigns will go. Sucks when the democrats do it.. sucks when the republicans do it.. sucks when any of them do it. So funny how they pick and choose who are the good million and billionaires and who's the good and the bad companies... go after big oil who pays plenty of taxes but hey, we'll skip over GE that didn't pay ANY taxes cause we're buddies with them and their top dog has an open invitation to visit the White House any time he wants. Its all pretty silly really.

"I've reached my limit. This may bring my Presidency down, but I will not yield on this."

- President Obama to Eric Cantor and Congressional Republicans in a closed-door meeting at the White House

Critical budget negotiations have left the GOP refusing to give up even one penny of tax breaks for Big Oil and billionaires.

What do Republicans support? Recklessly slashing Social Security and Medicare to make sure their special interests donors never have to pay their fair share.

Sign our petition right now telling Speaker Boehner and the GOP to end special tax breaks for Millionaires and Billionaires and to stop pushing America’s economy to the brink of disaster.

President Obama has not reached his limit.  He can still go lower-- approval ratings and standards-wise.

Let's get rid of all tax breaks for the rich, get rid of all the earmarks on bills, and get rid of all the public service unions at the same time.

True nuff.. there are plenty of cuts that can be made... maybe the congress should drop its health care and any and all other benefits that the general public doesn't have access to.
I agree but also he should make sure the 634 Billionares who habe him 30.000 for his re-election are also listed but you know hollywood

The liberal media made a big deal about how much money Obama has brought in against his competitors so far... or course they seem to forget that at this point that Obama is getting all of the money on the democratic side of things, on the republican side of things the money is split up several different ways and plenty of people are not going to even bother to make donations until they have a better idea on who is going to be a potential candidate.

Also, Obama said back in '09 that if the economy recovery wasn't happening that he didn't deserve a 2nd term... I have to agree with him, by no means does he deserve a 2nd term with the economy in the crapper still like it is.

There are lame arguments on both sides of this latest stand off. But one of the most telling numbers I see if you get even one liberal to admit it is as follows. If you took 100% of the income of everyone Dems want to tax more.. or at least the same you couldnt even pay the interest on the nationel debt for something like one month. Yet those in that tax bracket employ most (over 50%) of Americans. Retail businesses tend to make the least while oil and trades make the most. So why are we trying to equalize the income disparity on the backs of those who work the hardest?

I forget what show I was watching on Fox news, and the panel even got a democrat to admit the small amount taxing the top 5% at 100% would bring in.  He blew it off stating it was just a ( symbolic gesture) and then quickly found another subject to try to demonize rich conservatives for. I have a better plan let people like Immelts corporation pay even 30% of his multinational profits and we wouldn't need to go all the way down to 200k to call rich people. correct?

On a different forum I tried to ask who or what determines who is 'rich' and at what point is it fair to tax a person up to. Some millionaires are taxed at more then 50% of their yearly income... is that really fair? A lot of people forget to that a lot of these rich people are also paying state and local taxes as well so add on another 10 or 20% and your getting to where they really are not working for all that much. Sure, someone like Bill Gates could handle paying those kind of taxes or maybe the head of GE... oh wait, he gets a pass probably since he's a chum of BO. I have noticed that a number of democrats are backing off the $200,000 mark and stick with the million and billionaire types as well as the oil companies and corporate jet types.

I see the backing off part... however I see this as an incremental position on their part. Bottom line is we need to get out of the business of picking good and bad billionaires, and pay attn to things like how many people they employ both directly and indirectly.

We also need to check out how many of those jobs went overseas because people like Jeff imelt could pay more qualified people, less money, to produce things we could have made right here.

On another note... Why is it people who go through a few years of collage feel they desire something other than an entry level job in their field? I see folks with BA or above in Geophysics here working like a dog next to the roughnecks here to prove by putting there brawn where their brains are that there is gas where they calculate it to be.. Then maybe you could go to work for your payscale once you proved something?
It was kind of weird how Chelsea Clinton got a nice cushy job in a place that she has no training or experience with... must be nice to have a ex prez for a daddy to get ya cushy jobs :-)

Choosing which wealthy person or business to help and which to hurt is something the government needs to get out of at all levels, for such is clearly unconstitutional at the national and state level.

Most of what we see at the local level is manifested from state and federal grants based on some unfair bias.  We invest hundreds of thousands in 'helping' Ludington Downtown businesses through the DDA, but actually increase the tax burden on those Ludington businesses that lie outside that arbitrary district.

We have many people on the public payroll working many hours to benefit the private firm known as Lake Michigan Carferry, while at the same time the City Marina is competing unfairly with the many local private marina owners by getting money (such as $420,000 grants) from the State for improvements, and other advantages.  I wonder when was the last time the City offered to 'raise awareness' of the other marinas it competes with in the area?  LOL.

Try never X, they even have a gas buying agreement that fixes the price for them on an annual contractual basis without taxes too. Small gasoline dealers can't buy gas for what they sell it retail now, is that competing fairly? Secret deals are made daily after July 10th every season for partial season rentals too, not the posted rates on the web site. Now there's free dockage on the Steamers wall to boot. And the list goes on.
aquaman    Just in TC   gas was 3.70 and 3.73
