I am both saddened and shocked to find myself repeating  prior posts, probably long lost in the archives here, of not fully enjoying this precious and favorite season for joy and fellowship with my fellow Americans. All  because of the something like a 10 year NEWBIE tradition of trashing Christmas here at home. It's because of SP's, the (secular progressives) or more commonly known as the "politically correct liberals" that permeate our daily lives. Yes, it's Christmas and New Years soon again, and now those SP's can freely and repeatedly attack our Christmas celebration. WHY & HOW? Why, I believe they have a set of knives and forks to eat with just as we do, but, they have nothing on their plate to eat, and therefore, have to slice and dice the rest that do. Philosophically speaking, that means, at least to me, that they are blanks on the role call of reality, no meat, potatoes, veggies, nor even a meager excuse to be happy.  Not even an appetizer of positive comments to chew on. Empty plates = empty heads. Angry and despondent people with all the time in the world to pick fights, instead of being peaceful and loving individuals. Too much time to devise a mechanism for division and confrontations. The USA has prided itself throughout history in defining our being as a christian god fearing nation that follows the biblical preachings of love of thy neighbor, forgiveness, charity, and loyalty. Can this philosophy be so terrible and bad for mankind?  HOW? How can we say Happy Holidays in place of Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one another? How can we now call a Christmas tree a Holiday tree like the Rhode Island Governor of a few days ago? How can we tear down the Nativity scene and birth date of the savior and God's only son, whom was the Prince of Peace? I'm far from a righteous bible thumper or preacher, but, I again ask, why tear down our institutions and traditions for the sake of illegal aliens and atheists? Does the traditions offend them so that this must occur every year constantly? Why can't everyone just accept these American traditions without fear, frenzy, and overzealous actions to squash them into the past? Let every citizen, whether legal or not, celebrate their own way of Christmas with the religion of their choice, albeit alien to us as Americans, but, can you just do it without this chaos and feeble ways of attracting attention to yourselves as martyrs? Leave true Americans alone, and vice-versa, is all I can ask for. But, that only seems a distant dream of yesterday now, or is it?

*like*    It seems so easy to assign pat answers and judgements.   Remember, there is a reason for everything, but not necessarily an excuse for it.

Tiger....have you ever read Ruby Payne's "A Framework for Understanding Poverty?"    If you haven't, I'd highly recommend it.   Her writings have guided my career for the past seven years.

I have not read Ruby Paynes' book, Jubi; however my bookshelves have strained under the weight of many similar books and I have witnessed first hand how poverty affects families and produces self-fulfilling prophesies of despair. Frankly, since I retired from social services work, I try to avoid reading such books because it's too frustrating to remember how difficult it was (and still is!) to persuade people that the complex problems associated with poverty can't be fixed with slogans, simplistic thinking or outright denial.

My wife is still fighting the battle because she has 2 years before she can retire from her job as CEO of one of the largest child welfare agencies in Illinois. I'll be glad when that day comes so that I can enjoy the company again of the relaxed and happy person I married when we first began our social service careers. We used to remark that we had our "last laugh when we started working in human services."

Hmmm, that's strange Tiger, you gave me the impression you were a full fledged career Military man, Green Beret special ops type, like a military James Bond. Now you state you have been a simple social worker in Illinois living off the public sector system most all your life, wife as well too. No wonder you can't understand nor relate to the private sector opinions here and around the country. Sounds like Dulci is our precious Zannie of past too, the Wiccan Witch religious type. Hmmm, very revealing indeed, and quite surprising too, or is it? No wonder you guys are so well read and versed on the socialist-marxist type philosophies of life, and want to progress that thinking here in America. Oh well, I had higher expectations, but accept it for what it is. Zannie was also a fan of Ayn Rand, and I suggest you both re/-read those novels, Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, The Virtue of Selfishness, and others for a start to help correct your faith in the individual and our constitution. But it's very late for that wish. Anyhow, keep trying to live the best way you can. You both still have many virtues, we'll have to help you though in the real aspects of true Americanism and that's ok with us here, we love challenges...lol.

Zannie! OMG, I just had a violent flashback to a few years ago. LOL. I was thinking the same thing.

First things first.

Jane and Jubi, I am so sorry for using your names in my hypothetical example concerning the Tea Party and religion. Please accept my deepest apology for any misconceptions about either of you that my attempt at humor might have generated in the minds of people reading my post.

Secondly, Aquaman, before I post a response, please indicate whether you were humorously jerking my chain or whether you were serious in your comments directed to me. I don’t want to have any misunderstandings between us.

Jane and Jubi, did my apology reach you?

No apology needed, Tiger.   I understood your analogies.

Tiger, no serious offense intended. I did look over and rethink my earlier post and also see and think I yanked the chain a bit too hard now. I too believed you spent your entire adult life in Military service, now honorably retired. I can imagine that you spent at least 20+ years in that perilous job of defending the USA. That could have entailed a lot of very dangerous life threatening situations in several war theaters around the world. Therefore, it was not in my original comprehension to imagine you in any other job, esp. one like social service work. After some sleep on the matter, I can now see where you might want to venture into a very different kind of work after military retirement, that of helping others that need compassion and guidance in life's challenges. This is one of the things I don't like about computer forums, sometimes mis-statements are made, or wrong conclusions are drawn from distant communications like this. When I talk to people on the phone and/or in person they can usually draw the correct conclusions based on the voice changes and/or physical motions and expressions. Pardon the past reactions of not exactly having all the facts of your life, afterall, you just joined here, and we have never met in person. Like all humans, I too make errors, but, correcting them afterwards, usually prevents permanent mistakes. Take this as an olive branch for peace, and if I yank too hard in the future, don't be afraid to ask or feel free to correct me, it's all a learning thing in life, which hopefully increases wisdom as we grow in life. Thanks. P.S. That lingering comment about Saint Reagan was also in the mix way back there, I was of the opinion that the only saints were Billy and Hillary....lol.

No worries.

As Tiger states, I do hope this is some simplistically feeble attempt at chain yanking, but whatever your intentions, Aqua, I find this almost unbelievably narrow-minded and deeply offensive.   I'm not particularly concerned about your assessments of me, but in regard to Tiger, who spent twenty years defending our country, including service in Vietnam before he entered social service work, you have treated in an unspeakably disrespectful manner.     Furthermore, my philosophical beliefs do not align with those of Ayn Rand.   Actually, your views of the individual probably align far more with hers than mine do.   I have no idea who your "precious Zannie" is, nor am I a Wiccan.   Your ignorance and gross generalizations are laughable.  Thank you for bringing some humor to my evening.

Dulci. I may have missed that part of Tiger's postings that stated he retired after 20 years of military service and he deserves all the credit we can give him for that service ,however I to was under the impression that Tiger's entire adult working life was spent in the military.

Perhaps, then, you should reread his introduction.   I do believe it is mentioned there, and in some subsequent postings.
