The Batman of Petoskey: Crazed Vigilante or Hero

Here is an interesting story from the Gotham City of the north, known otherwise as Petoskey, see whether you can determine who the Joker in this story is.

Late Saturday night, Mark Wayne Williams and his girlfriend were patrolling the streets of Petoskey dressed as Batman and Batgirl, something they do each weekend, but this night was different. They say they saw suspicious activity on the side of the road in Bearcreek Township, they stopped to check it out and quickly called 911. Not long after, State Police arrived.

"I mean yeah I was dressed as Batman I'm out doing my patrols but I mean honestly I had no idea there is an investigation going on I decided to check something out I thought was kind of odd and the next thing I know I'm being arrested for it and it just doesn't seem like it makes a lot of sense where I committed the crime," Petoskey Batman Mark Wayne Williams said.

The crime according to State Police was obstruction of justice. Troopers were already searching for a hit-and-run suspect in the area when they came across Williams who was already scanning the scene. They say his scent threw off the K-9 unit, but his partner saw it in a different way.

"I actually believe that they actually went completely out of their way to get a hold of him and arrest him and I don't understand why he's being arrested he has every right to be out here as much as I do," Petoskey Batgirl Brittany Scott said.

Williams was taken to jail. He says on the ride there, he asked the trooper why he got arrested and he says the response was shocking.

"You know he was very rude to me he was telling me how you know people are scared of me and they don't want me out there and how I'm 33-years-old I need you just give this up and whatever and you know like I said it seems like it was more about who I am then what I was doing here," Williams said.

7&4 News talked with State Police today and they say that Williams did disrupt the search and he was arrested like anyone else would be. Batgirl says that she and her partner are just trying to help and they believe their efforts are misunderstood.

"Most people if they saw someone just in plain clothes helping somebody they're not going to stop and look at and go okay why are they doing that but if the saw someone in costume doing it there to stop. And they're going to remember what's going on and they're going to actually bring to bring more awareness to the situation," Scott said.

Williams says the suit is a symbol of his efforts in the community.

"As far as putting on a suit and everything you know I mean it draws attention to what I'm doing and you know it's basically showing people that there is someone out there trying to make a difference," Williams said

Both Batman's and Batgirl's stories are related below uncut, while the public official's who arrested the Batman remain fairly tight-lipped.   As they should, since what they arrested Batman for was obstructing a police officer in his duties  MCL 750.479, but there is no evidence to that as of yet, only the earnest testimony of Batman and Batgirl's alter egos which are included at the end of this thread.  Look at them and decide who the hero and the villain of this story is for yourself.

ALso, on a related note, the prosecuting attorney that prosecuted me on both of my cases, was arrested for diving under the influence. This man, who is supposed to uphold the law, who told the courts that what I do is a sickness just because I do it dressed as batman, that I am a danger to the community because I carry pepper spray. This man, turns around and gets drunk, then decides to drive a ton of steel on icy, slushy roads!  And he has the right to tell others they are wrong?! He has the right to call me a danger?! Im just glad he was stopped and arrested before he hurt or killed someone. From things Ive heard, it seems he has a drinking problem. If thats the case, I hope he gets the help he needs. That said, I dont think he has the right to prosecute anyone and he needs to iether step down or be fired. We are ALL supposed to follow the law but those who claim to serve it should be held to a higher standard.

I linked the information about that arrest of the PA on drunk driving in this other thread on the Caped Crusader of Emmet County in this link yesterday, so I am one step ahead of the Petoskey Batman.  Actually, I became a follower of your Facebook page and saw you reference it when it happened, looked it up and enjoyed a moment or two of schadenfreude at the karma involved.

Driving superdrunk when you are expected to uphold the laws of the land is a serious offense, and I am wholeheartedly with you that he should voluntarily step down or failing that, get fired.  But take care that he doesn't turn into another Harvey Dent.

Too often nowadays, our criminal justice system tries to make villains out of good people, which truly makes it a criminal justice system.  I've looked at the MSP report about your latest brush with authorities and find it a complete waste of time on their part, and an unnecessary assault on your good name.  Maybe the PA needs to drink heavily because he has a troubled conscience.

Cheers, Batman, and welcome to the Torch.  Allow us to help you out in your good deeds and good fights.

Thank you XL. Hopefully we can do some good together.

I would love to see Mark walk into a Ludington City Council meeting with his Batman outfit on.

If he did, Willy, I have a quality Superman outfit, and we can make a World's Finest presentation to the council of the ills of Michigan's Gotham and Metropolis.  That would be such a hoot.

Let me know if you need any help of any kind, Mark, and I will see what I can muster up; I'll send you a bat signal via electronic transmission if I need some help from the north.

That DEFINATELY sounds like a plan. Ill keep my eyes and ears open xl

The Detroit News ran a story about the strife that is plaguing the Michigan Protectors (a group of costumed adults working on positive projects) that includes a 'power and ethics' struggle between  the Petoskey Batman and another caped crusader from the Flint area, Bee Sting.  I think there's a reality show in the making here.  Let's hope they can get back on track, the super villains are laughing at their troubles.

Holy heroes. If Batman and Beesting can't get along then are we doomed? Even among super heroes there can be trouble.

It's not new.

Petoskey Batman kablams Bee Sting.

The real-life superhero, aka Adam Besso, was charged last month with violating a half dozen conditions of his probation.

The charges stem from a Feb. 6 story in the The Detroit News that described a rift between Bee Sting and Petoskey Batman.

Batman, alias Mark Williams, told The News that Besso was violating his probation for a 2012 assault by, among other things, driving with a suspended license.

Besso, 38, was cited by his probation officer for driving illegally, identifying himself as Bee Sting, wearing a mask, wearing a crime-fighting costume, leaving the state and failing to do community service.

He pleaded guilty Feb. 24 to leaving the state without a judge’s permission in exchange for having the other charges dropped, according to court records. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 31.
