Technically, I believe one should fault the deputies involved for what happened.  For all one knows, Cole or Fiers may have been ignorant of what went down that night in 2009 until McAdam brought his lawsuit to bear.  Since the existing video was made by the LPD's dashcam, they may not have even seen the road video.  As both are officers up the chain of command, one has to believe they would eventually get briefed on the relevant topics before the 2012 election cycle.

Unlike our public officers and our local newspapers, I view it as a duty of our public officers to eschew the actions of public servants that violate the law; ignoring it or endorsing unlawful or brutish actions shows a level of complicity on their part.

To my understanding, the two MCSO sergeants are split between jail and road patrol duty, and Cole was the one on the road.

ok you lost me, then-sheriff Fiers was in office during the McAdams thing, but you faulting the then-Sergent Cole for what happened? Ok, I'm not at all sticking up for any of them but the then-sheriff Fiers would have been the boss and the last say on the issue if the then-sergent Cole would have said anything to him about it? and then- sergent cole was in charge of the whole road patrol?

I wish ex-sheriff Fiers all the best in his new endeavors for success and good luck.

Yes, in July 2009.  I find fault with then-Sheriff Fiers by his complacency in my post prior to this, but it should be noted that then-Sergeant Kim Cole likely had the first look at what happened, being the sergeant in direct command of the road patrol at the time, if I am not mistaken.  Neither made it an issue in their often contentious sheriff campaigns of 2012 during the primary and the general election.

Didn't the McAdams incident happen when Fiers was in office?

I had no dealings with him on a professional level (other than FOIA requests), but I concur with that assessment of him.  He had humility and an underlying belief system that you would want in your sheriff.  My major disappointment with him was that he chose his officers over the public in the McAdam's fiasco, he just chose to perpetuate the cover-up and implicitly agreed with what his deputies did.  His men took a man down and tasered him repeatedly when video footage and deposition shows him innocent of any crime, then one of his deputies tasered that innocent assault victim once he was taken to the hospital and handcuffed to the gurney.  Unsatisfied, his deputies participated in a sham prosecution of the innocent assault victim on five counts of assault on a police officer, perhaps the most appalling assault on the innocent victim's liberty.  Fiers, more so than Cole, had a duty to the people to assure them that this was an anomaly, and that the perpetrators would be dealt with.  Sheriff Cole has since promoted those involved.  But Sheriff Fiers didn't listen to his conscience and weigh in on it, and even though it was unknown to a lot of people, it cost him an election... but gained him a towing business.
