Bill Carpenter to Leave County Commission After Property Sale

Another local politician resigns.  I admired Commissioner Bill Carpenter for (pictured below right) giving the city a tongue-lashing about six months ago, for his attending many meetings of the Ludington City Council during his tenure, and his coming clean recently about criminal transgressions earlier in his life.

Mason County Commissioner Bill Carpenter announced Tuesday that he will leave his seat on the board June 21 — the date he closes the sale of his bed and breakfast business, the Lamplighter.

With the sale, Carpenter will no longer live in the county’s second district and therefore will no longer be able to serve as that district’s representative on the county board.

“We’ve had it for 15 years,” he said about the Lamplighter, at 602 E. Ludington Ave. “We’re just getting old and decided we needed to retire before it affected the business.”

Assessing records show that Commissioner Carpenter owns another house on North James, out of his district, so he may still live in the area.  As you can see by the map, his district encompasses most of the City of Ludington's 4th, 5th and 6th Wards and some of PM Township.  Those interested in the position need to contact the county clerk.

This could be a 'second chance' sweepstakes for those currently seeking the Fifth Ward seat, but the Ludington Torch secretly hopes for somebody to come forth ready to resolve all of the issues that seem to originate in the city's beleaguered Fourth Ward.
