The Obama Administration... Most. Petty. Administration. Ever!

Just when you think our beloved administration couldn't get any more petty then what it is already, they amaze us with doing something even more petty. In an effort to have the most positive media coverage it can get, the administration created and staffed a new position specifically to get as much good press as possible while trying to suppress as much bad press as possible... and all done at tax payer expense too... what a shock! *rolls eyes*

This type of position is not actually a new idea, they been doing it for years but traditionally its something that the parties themselves would have during campaign time. Why Obama thinks he is so important that he needs the position, specially given that he receives plenty of positive press coverage as it is is beyond me.

Apparently there are plenty of liberal/progressives out there that are not real fond of the idea. As you will probably note, I got this story from the Huffington Post who is needless to say plenty liberal, particularly on political subjects. Check out the comments section and you'll notice that a pretty big majority of the responders are against this new position. I'm sure some of the comments were made by trolls but I think a good portion of the comments are from the liberal/progressives that use the site.

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration has created and staffed a new position tucked inside their communications shop for helping coordinate rapid response to unfavorable stories and fostering and improving relations with the progressive online community.

"This week, Jesse Lee will move from the new media department into a role in the communications department as Director of Progressive Media & Online Response," read an internal memo from Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer, provided to The Huffington Post. "For the last two years, Jesse has often worn two hats working in new media and serving as the White House's liaison with the progressive media and online community. Starting this week, Jesse will take on the second role full time working on outreach, strategy and response."

The post is a new one for this White House. Rapid response has been the purview of the Democratic National Committee (and will continue to be). Lee's hire, however, suggests that a portion of it will now be handled from within the administration. It also signals that the White House will be adopting a more aggressive engagement in the online world in the months ahead.

Lee has played that role in the past, including writing a semi-infamous White House blog post that said Fox News' Glenn Beck was lying about the administration on his show. His new gig comes with its own Twitter account, precisely for the purposes of disseminating push back.

An equally telling requirement of Lee's new job, however, is that of crafting strategy for outreach to the progressive community. Lee has been tasked with that responsibility in his previous incarnations, both as a member of the DNC online team during the '08 election and as a senior new media adviser with then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

His new post may require even more delicate hand-holding. Instead of managing the administration's web presence, he will be pressing to make the administration more popular on the web. In that respect, his Twitter account could also become an interesting window into the status of the always emotional, occasional testy dance between progressives and the president.

Lee enjoys good relationships with much of the online community, but as a member of the administration for the past two years he has also had his moments of friction.

Wow !  You Repubs are really pressing for something to hang Obama for.....I mean blame him for something that's wrong like playing Chicago politics with the canals(risking the Great Lakes health) .Or say that job growth isn't coming fast enough. Or say that he hasn't protected the citizens from the greedy "ahl bidness" (an industry screaming out for full regulation) and I will agree. But, since he gave out his birth certificate and caught Bin Laden, it's like the GOPers are looking in every closet for another skeleton hoping for a bone to fall out.......So he is hiring a nerd to deal with more media crap....Wow ! .... BFD......I'd get used to Obama, because unless a knight in shining armor comes out of the GOP woods in less that six months--- he will win a second term easily.....

Might not be that easy for Obama.... what has he done? Economy still sucks. Gitmo still open. Jobless rate still in the crapper. No ones buying houses. He repeatedly makes dumb gaffes for such an educated man. Sort of got out of Iraq but has went into Libya. His wanting to have high speed rail is simply stupid... but he keeps pushing the subject.

Any reasonable person that might of voted for him is going to seriously think twice about voting for him again. If the GOP puts up someone like McCain again then he might have a chance at a 2nd term. If the GOP puts up someone like Herman Cain they will have a shot (assuming that nothing majorly bad is hiding in his closet).

Anyway, I would hope the president would be more concerned with trying to improve the country then worry about if he was getting good or bad press. If you can't take bad press then your in the wrong job, it comes with the territory. Bush with all his faults (yes there were plenty), didn't whine that the media was being mean to him.

Wow snide you must like carter also just raise taxes and run jobs out of the country.  I hear he is going to have higher tax rate than carter.   Also I love the whay he F/// over the seniors on the cost of living so we get farther in debt by the cost of everything, but he reports nothing has gone up in costs.  Love the way the News people lie about it, and you  dems say it is ok.
The Democrats are out thinking and out public relating the Republicans. The Republicans seem content to sit back and do nothing to countermand the Democrats strategies. Twittling their collective thumbs while enjoying all the perks Washington has to offer. So much for the 2 party system. My real question is.. How in God's green Earth can so many fools { the American public }  be so brain twisted by Obama and this corrupt Administration that is leading us down the path of no return?

My mother used to say, if you can't say anything good about some-one, then don't say any thing at all.

So, I guess I'll have to keep my mouth shut.

But, she didn't say anything about a key board, I'll have to think about this.

As to Snide's statement, four more years should be sufficient to socialize whats left of the America I grew up in.

Also. They just discovered one of the largest oil fields in the US in Catarina Texas, could produce up to a million barrels of oil a day by the end of the decade. BUT it has to use fracking to get to it. Watch how  quickly it takes the O's EPA to put a stop to it. He's rather be Brazil's best customer than drill here.

have to agree with snide (oops on the italics) but anyway BFD. I mean I am Highly surprised this is not already a standard procedure of gov't and countries.

As far as the fracking, I will have to read more on that.

Honestly my gripe is that tax payer money is being used to fund this job. Like I said, traditionally the respective parties have had people do the job this guy is doing which is of course funded by people that donate to the respective parties. If he wasn't being payed with OUR money to spread what he deems as 'real' information, I wouldn't have an issue with the position. If Obama wants to pay the guy out of his own pocket then fine, but we shouldn't have to foot the bill for someone to spread propaganda.

On a side note, this guys wife was the person responsible for the controversial Moveon.org ad that called respected military adviser Gen. David Petraeus a different name, saying that his name was General Betray Us. Not real sure if this guy was the right guy for the job if he's that close to someone responsible for such a shameful ad.

In part, I have to agree with snide, the repubs. have yet to come up with someone that can relate to the american people. Perfect example, running McCain, just because, I guess it was his turn. They seem to run the wash.,country club elete party members who will play ball. Some one who will buck the political system as they know it, will definently not be backed by the party. They will continue on their merry way, and we, the people, will continue to pay and pay.

The mere fact of giving up power is more important than whats right for the country. And that goes for both party's..

I believe we will see the dirtiest campaigns ever this time around.

McCain was a weak candidate... he had about as much chance of being elected as I did... specially going against the "hope & change". Honestly don't think the country would be any better off had he won then what it is now.
Agree
I look forward to Jesse Lee coming forward and debating the rationale of Obama's policies in a straightforward and direct way on the web.  Too often, conscientious and thoughtful people look at those policies and see their inherent difficulties and there just doesn't seem to be enough people saying "It is Bush's fault/ Bush lied" or "We need to pass the bill before we can figure out what it does."
