We know the zoning board is corrupt so now we will see how corrupt the appeals board can be.

The ZBA could halt or severely modify this project if they interpret it in CARRE-friendly ways.  My feeling is that they will succumb to the pressure of Consumers' attorneys and back the Planning Commission.  Probably the best that CARRE will get is to have it sent back to the Planning Commission based on one or two points, which will not affect the main project dramatically.

The ZBA will take less money to buy off their soul than the Planning Commission. A prediction.
I went to the Mason County Zoning Board of Appeals meeting last night 8-25 regarding the sky scraper wind turbine special land use. CARRE, the group that is againts this special land use, filed the appeal. there were about 80+ people at the meeting. Only 2 out of the 18 people who signed up to speak were in favor of denying the appeal and allowing the installation of the giant eyesores. It's obvious that an overwhelming majority of the public does not want 'monsterous wind turbines installed. What amazes me is that a handful of Washington politicians granted tax money for these turbines and a handful of State officials approved these monsters, then a few local citizens [county boards] are trying to ram these down our throats. Something needs changing when a handful of people are allowed to so drastically alter the lives of our citizens.
If they are elected officials, it's called a "recall". Listening to constituents these days as to how to vote for or against something, seems to be nonexistent, esp. around Mason County. It's a given the people that live in this area are not voting on the issue, otherwise their perceptions might be quite altered in favor of the majority that do live there and whose land values will be severely depreciated, along with their privacy. Just remember, Big Brother knows what's best for you, not you.
Were the non-speaking audience members also overwhelmingly against the installation of the turbines as well, judging by their reactions?

Yes

Hate to sound negative but don't think you have a prayer of stopping what government and big wind wants. Lots of information but check out our site....

I never was very political but the corruption by our elected officials in Manistee County is out of control. We have an outstanding/reasonable township board but so many surrounding townships are already in Duke Energy's pocket. As is the road commission. Recall? They should be shot, lol. Seriously, they should be shamed out of office.

Hey, Robert, did you happen to notice that Consumer's Energy down here has chosen Manistee Attorney (and Ludington City Attorney/private contractor) Richard Wilson to represent their cause in front of the ZBA.  If I'm not mistaken, he is also the Village Attorney for Kaleva (Kaleva Gov.)and Onekama (Onekama 2010), and for Filer Township (Filer Minutes 2011).  You will probably soon see him push Duke's case in your area.

If anyone wants to know why our existing zoning laws are so wind farm friendly, you only have to look at Richard Wilson and his friends in his lawfirm Gockerman, Wilson, Saylor and Hesslin who offer their services to local governments as private contractors to duck accountability for their actions and responsibility for their payroll taxes.  City/Village/Township Attorneys are public officials and are ultimately working for the people, not against them.

WOW,

Not ready to pop the champagne just yet but....Duke has chosen the weakest of townships but we function as a group and will rally to help our neighbors.

Robert, X, + all others,

Polls show that 17% of Americans feel that their government (federal) has the consent of the governed.  Most sane people don't want to wade into politics but we need reluctant warriors representing the peoples interests in there.  More power to the both of you in your endeavors!

Whoaaaaa....I wonder how many of you have had the distinct 'pleasure' (LOL) of being an elected official to work 'for' the people....let alone attempt to work for them as they constantly change their minds about what is or isn't good for the whole off the community and not just for themselves.  Check the Planning Commissioners pockets - bet you don't find that anyone is being bought out!  LEARN a bit about the enabling statutes that allow a community to zone and what all is involved before you start critisizing 'the' government.  No...wait...better yet:  put YOUR name on the ballot in 2012 and see how long it takes for your 'EX' friends to start complaining because YOU'RE doing it all wrong and being paid off...LOL!
