Guess who's running for Mayor of Ludington?
That's the sign I saw this afternoon on his front lawn on Lakeshore Dr..

XLPD-- that's precious Willy.

I think Aquaman missed a post or two back a month or so noting that Barnett was challenging Steve Miller this fall, and that I was going to wait and see what he was offering before I dismissed him.  I think Freedom Seeker thought I was daft because of all the grief I had received from the chief throughout his career in law effacement when I asked for accountability from LPD, but I think I have a soft spot for him.  It's quite odd, I admit, but here's a brief reasoning of why I think a 'Mayor Barnett' would be interesting.

Mayor Miller has shown himself to be a practical political strategist.  He doesn't allow himself to get bent out of shape or vindictive when I or others score a win against bad city policy or actions, he will roll with it, maybe even accept it.  This makes him a lot better mayor than Henderson ever was, but this quality will likely degrade in a second or third term and potentially makes him more apt to conceal the corruption that has already began to show late in his first.

Barnett does not have that quality, but he is a master in gaslighting.  If you point out that reserve police officers are not sanctioned by local law, carry guns and expose the city to great liability, he will say shame on you, you are against those brave volunteers who sacrifice their time.  If you ask for an explanation of a $1500 shortfall in the Shop with a Cop program, he will say shame on you, quit throwing rocks from behind a bleacher.

Barnett needs to learn a few qualities to transition from police chief to mayor and more importantly, he needs to unlearn a few qualities that he's attained through his checkered past.  This process will make going to Barnett meetings more interesting than Mayor Vaniller's.  Alas, it will also be bad for Ludington which is why I will be supporting the incumbent.
