Mason County Press failed at reporting this!!  This is happening as I write this!  Shoreline Media picked up on this sad story occurring in Scottville.  Where were you Rob????

Thought you covered Scottville with the "news" that affects Scottville?  But, yet you Rob are the first to jump on reports via the scanner, and report that!  Albeit, sometimes the scanner is not actual "news," as it is being reported to 911 in an emergency situation.  Further, Rob(MCP) some of the news that is reported has nothing whatsoever to do not only in Scottville(but not even in Mason County)!

But, here is a sad story currently occurring right in the City Limits of Scottville.  Do you report that? No, rather your competitor(former employer) reports it.

SCOTTVILLE — Cindi Schulz pleaded with city commissioners for “one last chance” to clean up her home at 127 W. Broadway Ave.

They listened and held off on condemning the property — and several others —  listed as “blighted.”

Her story is heart-wrenching.

“The death of my 15-year-old son Jedidiah and my husband Bill’s illness and then his death put my life at a standstill for a long time,” she wrote the commission.

She attended Monday’s commission meeting, telling the city she was sorry for letting the home go.

“I apologize to everyone for the condition of my house,” she said. “The last few years of my life have been a little difficult.”

Commissioner Connie Duncil said there are resources, such as FiveCAP, to help.

“There are people out there,” Duncil said of agencies and individuals willing to help.

Schulz said some people who had been saying they would help are more inclined to now that the city is giving her reprieve.

They didn’t want to do the work if the home was going to be torn down, she said.

“I was trying to do it all by myself with my daughter,” she said.

She thanked the city commissioners for understanding.

She just received a tip from FiveCAP about where she can buy the size plugs she needs for insulation, she said.

"I will trim any trees, plants and continue to keep the yard looking nice. I will also repair any broken windows and hang curtains. I will fix the missing shingles. Once I have completed the above task, I will give the little shed out back a facelift."

The city also gave more time for other blighted properties, including the unoccupied home at 206 N. Columbia St., which Bill Schoenlein is in the process of renovating.

Commissioner Dave Johnson said he would like a timeline or clear progress so the properties, especially the exterior and roofing, are not left in ill repair for the winter.

The commission will revisit the issue monthly.

Lots more to come …

MCP is pretty busy making Ed Hahn look bad. Ed might not fit into the normal commission thought process and at least he is willing to try something different, some at bit more different than others but ED IS STILL TRYING. Some of the faces on the videos are priceless. SO what if Ed's ideas need to be refined at least there are some new ideas and very few members have any new ideas at all it seems.  Why isn't MCP going after the mayor who insults and belittles on a regular basis both citizens and commissioners. I guess it must be MCP thinks it's followers who always agree with his off center reporting is what MCP is interested in. Sure reporting about Ed is fine and MCP's right but MCP's credibility is sadly missing.

I wonder how Ludington's elite would have treated this woman?

The woman's plea reminded me somewhat of Steve Iteen's plea before the council made just before the new junk ordinance was passed, where Mr. Iteen admittedly had an awful lot of 'stuff' that just wouldn't fit within the means of his property, and would feel like a criminal if the Junk ordinance amendment passed without some sort of modification for people in his position who have no intention of creating a public nuisance  (http://ludingtoncitizen.ning.com/forum/topics/ludington-city-counci...).  His concerns fell on deaf ears, as none of his concerns were addressed at the meeting or since.

But one needs to look no further really than the last meeting where 20 folk who just wanted simple answers, understandable rationale, and sensible solutions got nothing from the council about the rental inspection ordinance.  If they responded to the Scottville woman at all, I could actually foresee Councilors Holman and Castonia riding down the poor woman for her choices.  Councilor Hahn's video of the meeting follows, where Schoenlein speaks early during the public comment and he comes in later.
