And, very interesting comments X and Di, I had no idea, and learned something again today quite important too, thanks. And I doubt very seriously anyone else knows about the RRO including most council members. And NOW I would point out at the mtg. too, how come the city council ignores the RRO and the City Charter so much, when other councils follow theirs, as is required by law and common etiquette? Only Ludington can do this and get away with it like it's nothing important? This is a landmark imho, and I would emphasize it so the media and public get the point of how unethical and illegal this council has become, and continues like it's all okay. Thanks for the update and education. I think Monday's mtg. is going to open a new door of learning for all, good luck.

Dianne, at every council meeting since the new rules took effect, the approval of the previous meeting's minutes take place after the first public comment, so it would be appropriate for a citizen during that comment to point out something on those minutes that should be considered before their approval, such as false or out-of-order statements in the minutes.  I have used that tie-in myself in order to refute or reprove what officials have said at the previous meeting in the initial comment period.

The last major reworking of the council meeting rules took place just after Mayor Henderson was elected.  In 2002, they recodified some of the rules, but they have never actually posted them.  I may have asked for them in an informal FOIA request before and was rebuffed because they weren't aware of any actually written down.

I think you'd have to make that comment about the splashpad at the second 2 minute comments Dianne, at the end of the mtg.. I would ask at the first comment section why Fishbeck Engrg. Co. is getting a no bid contract, against our city charter of getting competitive bids from several firms before any decision is rendered.

See the council packet here.  Here's what's on:  new fire station contract with architect, as Christman is deemed too expensive.  City to opt out of a state reform for out of control employee benefits, most city employees will have fringe benefits around 80% of their regular wages-- incredible.  City to okay contract with Fishbeck engineering company without competitive bids to do $36,700 engineering work for new maritime museum's sewer system that floods the museum.  Mayor Holman to honor the failing City of Ludington Daily News for their 150th birthday-- guess what the lead story will be on Tuesday.
