Quick Hits

The Michigan High Football season comes to an end this Friday and Saturday. Sixteen teams remain and eight will be crowned champions.  Of the eight games, three have private schools competing for the title.  Honestly, I thought there would be more, but I think eighteen percent is still a high percentage of private schools compared to the ratio of public verse private schools.

Back in 2002 when David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar announced the joint concert with Van Halen, Roth made a rather humorous statement about the relationship between him and Hagar. Roth stated, “Sam and I are like fraternity brothers that have been through the same shi%%y hazing”.  Three teams in this weekend playoffs might feel the same way.  Warren De La Salle, Muskegon Mona Shores and Detroit Martin Luther King each suffered a loss at the hands of the Muskegon Big Reds.  Detroit Martin Luther King gets their chance at revenge when the play Muskegon in the Division III title game Saturday, Nov. 24th at 7:30 pm.  King actually gave Muskegon their closet contest of the season falling to the Big Reds 24-21 in week 2.

Muskegon and Mona Shores are not the only Muskegon area teams that are playing this weekend. Montague makes another appearance in the State finals.  The West Michigan Conference champion will face defending state champion Jackson Lumen Christi in the Division 6 championship game on Friday, Nov. 23 at 4:30 pm.

Thanks for the update, and maybe 18% of the teams being private schools is not so surprising when about 1 in every 5 schools in Michigan is private.
