As uncovered by Grand Rapids TV Station WOOD and FOX 17, the body of a four year old girl washed up in Boston Harbor on June 25th, whose identity has as of yet been undetermined, is scheduled to have her DNA tested against Baby Kate.

Chances are unlikely that the two will match-- authorities have believed that Baby Kate was murdered by her father and disposed of in the wilderness of Mason County even though no corpse or location has ever been determined.  The other line of thought, which investigators have not pursued since shortly after Baby Kate's disappearance, was for a covert (black market) adoption, which could explain this being Baby Kate, but wouldn't supply the answer of why the adoptive parent(s) got rid of her this way several years later.

For those who optimistically think that Baby Kate is alive and well and in the hands of parents that paid good money for her, the willingness of the Mason County Sheriff's Office to check Boston's "Baby Doe" against "Baby Kate" is a sign that the local authorities haven't totally ruled out the possibility that Kate is still alive, even though they are doggedly pursuing open murder charges against her father, Sean Phillips over four years later.  Here is the story from Fox 17:
