Anybody have any more info than the LDN (p 5) on Tuesday about the car-bicycle accident that happened near the Ludington HS?

This tragedy happened in our state in Canton.  A young mother was walking her bike across the street, and was struck down by a passing vehicle preparing to turn.  http://www.hometownlife.com/article/20110722/NEWS03/110722002

How do you miss seeing her crossing this road, walking her bike, when you are slowing for a turn?  And why isn't there any charges against the driver?

Just ten minutes ago, I was waiting on my bicycle to cross Ludington at Harrison from the corner with the post office, an old lady in a motor scooter is on the opposite corner wanting to cross over my way.  The walk sign comes up, I head over she starts her scooter going.  From behind her, a truck turns right in front of her, fortunately, she saw what was happening and stopped; I had to stop too to avoid being ran over.

An LPD Tahoe right behind the truck, who must've seen this truck violate both the lady's and my right-of-way just heads across the street as if it was no big deal.  These are the same kops who stop bicyclists for crossing empty intersections claiming they violated right-of-way rules.
