Let's ROLL

Let's Rescue our Ludington Lifeguards-- the lifeguard program that Ludington has had before it was scrapped this year costs less than $20,000 to maintain; being that our Mayor used this to get his job, and they saved at least 3 people last year, why?

It should be noted that the "Let's ROLL" thread was started some time ago, in the hopes and prayers given by our forum quorum for a direction back to hiring Lifeguards for the Ludington beaches into the future, TO SAVE LIVES, not to be a political boondoggle for other forums to copy or ridicule. We have also spun-off this original thread into many sub-topics also of concern regarding the Ludington Lifeguard Program, the most recent that of SOS. So, having said that, our interests and concern over these legal and political matters have not dampened, nor been extinguished by those suggesting a Beach Patrol with some make-shift signage and liferings at a substantially higher cost to taxpayers. We stand FIRM in our beliefs, as well as that of many victims families also. Lest this original thread be dormant for some time, now or in the past, still does NOT diminish it's importance and critical contribution for local public safety. Anyone wishing to put in their two cents to the contrary are always welcomed and obliged, as our minds for progress, not regress, are always open.

After a couple of afternoons at Stearns Beach this summer, I was totally put off by the beach patrol.  Its like a Seinfeld bit:  'I mean, what exactly are those guys doing anyway... Are they supposed to be on the beach or out patrolling the streets?'  Har, Har, Har.

If you can't afford lifeguards then don't waste money on these guys, they just seem to ruffle feathers.

Lake Michigan took the life of 14 year old Albrianna Huck of Ludington last night at Stearn's Beach.  As we mourn along with her family and friends, let's reflect on whether the lifeguard program should be resuscitated so as to have such tragedies be less likely to occur.
