Some touching, inspirational words by survivors and caregivers of cancer, were things featured. Several attendees (pointed out with arrows) should be commended for showing up, and the mayor should get extra kudos for keeping it quick and under five minutes in his proclamation. But they all could have done a little more walking than the one token lap they did, before shortly after heading off. Particularly Henderson and Begnoche. By the time I was done with my second lap, they had gone into the concession stands to eat and schmooze, and at the end of eight laps they were gone, never to be seen again.

I have been informed by City Councilor Taranko that he did show back up between 6 and 8 PM that night, and that he was lurking a little longer than I had him pegged for earlier, though he was out of sight and off the track.

I bugged out for a bicycle ride shortly after 6:30 PM, so I'll take him at his word for the latter.

It always strikes me as odd, but not really odd, that, with the exception of Susan Boes, who used to be a County Commissioner, I never see any local politicians come out to this event that stay beyond the first half hour.  The news media leave around the same time.

That's not a bad thing in any way, but it does say something about those two old professions.
