Housekeeping is the number one problem on construction sites. In fact, a large number of workplace incidents can be attributed to poor housekeeping. Poor housekeeping contributes to incidents by creating hazards that can cause injuries. Other hazards may be taken for granted if the sight of paper, The 5S is a systematic housekeeping technique used by organizations initiated from Japanese words; Seiri (sort), Seiton (set in order), Seiso (shine), Seiketsu (standardize), and Shitsuke (sustain). Discovery of 5S T hirty years ago, researchers started studying the secret of success of Japanese manufacturing companies. It was Hiroyuki Hirano who developed 5s within his overall approach to production systems. 5s turned out to be the most impressive 'secret'. Many western managers coming across the approach for the first time found the experience to be enlightening. It is an acronym for five Japanese words and denotes a step-by-step approach for developing a clean and well-organized workplace. The term workplace could mean shop floor, office, manager's desk, garage, store, or any other place.
