My strategy for all TW games has been the same: Economic development in the home provinces. Establish trade with distant factions (so you can expand without losing trade partners). The crusade/jihad function is the most powerful and broken in the game. The problem is that you can have an eternal crusade by never taking the target. I purchased the game Medieval 2 Total War in Mid December 2006. A short time later, I purchased Medieval II: Total War Official Strategy Guide by Brady games. In the past, I have not hesitated to buy the Brady guides, hence, my impulse purchase. When I received the guide, I was impressed with its size and apparent quality. 3. FORGING LASTING ALLIANCES. This is probably the most important topic pertaining to the interaction between diplomacy and war. Choosing your allies or even choosing to have allies are decisions that should be carefully thought out in consideration with the current territorial situation of the game. The Scots to the north are isolated from the rest of Europe, and should be easy to wear down without a strong ally from the mainland. The French royal forces are more than a match for the armies in Normandy, but they also have enough fronts to deal with right now that they are unlikely to be able to drive them from the continent anytime soon.
