Buster hit one nail on the head, "admission of guilt". Did anyone ever see the COL admit to guilt about anything in recent years? Or maybe even dating way back to the 80's? NO! And with two cronies like Shyster Shay and Warped Wilson in command of the city and council, you never will! The second nail is what jfc states, except that "time will tell where this leads" is going to be Till Hell freezes over! Unless and until the COL is ordered by a Court of Justice/State Supreme Court/Governor's office to clean up this mess, it won't happen. DEQ report be damned and buried as far as we all know into the future. Some locals need legal eagles to get justice, it's not going to happen without a suit to publicize the problems and document it for the world to hear and see.

They don't need to admit guilt, proof is well documented. The col got estimates in 2013 of around 1.4 million. Less then the water tower paint job and the 1.8 million to fix their marinas. Had they done it then this would not be a story. So where is this going to lead then......time will tell.

I'd guess money and reputation. Also to clean it up would be an admission of guilt perhaps? I couldn't imagine the cost of something like a clean-up of that magnitude, maybe hundreds of millions or more. Also that would be bad business if we became a superfund site, like eww Whitehall, for example..

Buster the report that I reference was published in Sept 2015, and was ordered by the city of Ludington at an expense of a minimum of 25k. Why they just sit on it is baffling to me, it proves there are problems there that were caused by the city. It is 480 pages and I printed out 2 copies and put them in binders, I trust no one from government. 

Why would they not clean up the mess? What is their motivation to not clean it?

I did see something on another posting on The Torch about that site with a pictorial depiction of the elevated lead levels in that bayou. Jfc isn't this the report based on the samples taken by Raymond Jr. or is this a different report?
As far as test kits are concerned I was at Meijer about a week ago and saw test kits for lead-water $10 as well as radon $10 and lead based paint tests for $2 on sale I should have bought one or 2. Also at the health department I believe I saw $18 per water sample if I remember correctly. Has anyone seen the DEQ wastewater reports? Are those publicly available? By grinding up all those salmon from copeyon fish cleaning station then dumping that waste into the treatment pond, that sure adds a lot of toxic metals into our specific area. I'd be curious to see if the waste plant has ever been within State limits for Mercury levels. As far as elevated lead levels are concerned, I would say with a fair amount of confidence that children who ingest wild game killed by lead shot, which I've read compelling evidence of trace lead levels in wild game being more prevalent than traditionally believed, is more likely a major source rather than lead paint. Also, locally, wild game is frequently donated by local sportsmen to needy families.

If the COL would have been proactive and cleaned this mess back in 2008 when it happened and the state and federal gov allotted funds to do it. If they would have maintained their waste water discharge permit that expired in 2011 and been on the up and up. If they would have done something when the 2012 sewage break happened that was big enough to report or the other times maybe it wasn't big enough to report. Bottom line, if they would have acted like a governing body is supposed to act by taking care of all of its citizens would any of this really be an issue now? I know this is not the whole cause but it exposes the real reason that the COL does not care for anyone but their own! WHY WOULD THE COL NOT WANT ALL OF ITS LAND KEPT UP? Makes one wonder.........

Xlfd, zinc, copper, and mercury are bad for fish but made a lot more potent when fish have them inside and we eat them! It is in their meat/muscle that we eat and is ingested into our meat/muscle tissue. Very hard to get rid of

I thought newspapers needed to be accredited? Apparently not this guy knows more than the MDEQ? Sad, this paper needs to be sued for printing false information. The person that wrote it and the editor, ceo all need to face criminal charges. Why do they think they are not in the same situation as Flint? Way too much cover up, time has come to expose all of this! This paper needs to be shut down asap and held accountable. Lead paint is bad if ingested like Buster said. These kids are getting it from another source that is being covered up, well except for what the DEQ reported on! Time to expose all these fools are covering this up!

This looks like a good sign that should be added to the sign on top of our business and various spots along our property. This city has made us worthless. I have shared this on Facebook and it was shared a lot, specially by my friend that I worked with on Snyder's campaign, shared to many state officials.

Buster have you seen the DEQ report of the PM Bayou? If not I would love to send it to you, unfortunately it is too big to send by email but I would be happy to put it on a sd card and snail mail it to you, inbox me your address if you want it, it proves all of this.

Welcome to the Torch, Buster.  In these times where we are once again being besieged by spambots, I wasn't too sure about you not being one until your comment here, and it seems to be a well informed first post, which is probably something I couldn't claim when this site hit the airwaves in late 2009.

Kevin dutifully writes whatever city officials give him without any resistance, he also complies dutifully in his journalistic pursuits under the direction of his managing editor, Steve Begnoche.  This makes him an invaluable tool in their efforts at keeping us poorly informed on what is happening to our city.

I looked into purchasing a lead-test kit at Home Depot to check out some suspicious water, but it's not a cheap endeavor; the test kit themselves cost $9 then you have to send your sample and $30 to the lab for analysis.

You appear to be a myth Buster and well-versed on the issues yourself, welcome to the club.  I would add that both zinc and copper in high concentrations (like mercury) are hazardous to fish populations.
