A good and honest man in this important position would resign with regret and humility. I don't see that happening yet. Even if it does happen in the future, the damage to the WSCC seems to be done now. It would appear that arrogance and complicity with the board membership is more important? Having said that, Mr. Dillon, please tender your resignation asap, and spare the innocent public of viewing your next strategic moves to keep this job. A job no doubt well paid for, along with a WSCC vehicle that was used for your jollies, instead of college business.
His letters to the MCP and COLDNews should have disclosed his WSCC faculty status, and any other relationship with Dr. Dillon that may have swayed his opinion, it does create questions when he doesn't. Fact is, the local media (other than this humble outlet) have not rendered any editorial opinion that passes any kind of value judgment on Dr. Dillon, nor have they printed anybody's comments on their main rag-- some regular folks have commented unfavorably on Facebook, however.
The Ludington Torch believes that accountable is a foundation of any of our public institutions, and that makes Dr. Dillon's actions unacceptable for a man in his position.
It sounds like Nick Swan has affiliations with Dillon and maybe even some business connections for radio services at WSCC. Either way, it doesn't do any justice to the video on youtube on the arrest and, eventual obvious conviction of same man. There can be NO Excuse for this type of behavior on anyone's part, let alone a supposed "local leader and President of a College of higher learning" imho.
Today's COLDNews featured a letter to the editor from Nick Swan, whom if I remember right, spoke in favor of the President in the small open part of the latest meeting, before they went into closed session for two hours. Here are some excerpts:
"I would like to comment on the uncaring way the news media has attacked one of our multi-talented local business persons."
"...to be honest I am sure we all have made inaccurate choices that are just as dangerous."
"The comments, photos, and discussion carried on by the rumor-mongers in the media are to sell news print!"
"For God's sake leave him alone to heal."
"I for one believe his recovery will produce a stronger, capable leader that we need back here at WSCC."
Managing Editor Steve Begnoche sets the record straight that the COLDNews hasn't printed any rumors and said the news coverage would be about the same anywhere as it involves a public figure. Here, I agree with Steve; the COLDNews has been very tame and without any rumors or any other opinion on the topic. They have shied away from doing anything beyond reporting the news, which isn't how they treat other non-public figures that try to hold the local public officials accountable. Point your finger elsewhere than the COLDNews, Nick.
Steve, take note that Nick sent the same chain letter to the Mason County Press, which they printed two days ago. Scooped! Nick's words at the meeting were a little differentbut in the same vein:
“Dr. Dillon is West Shore Community College,” said Nick Swan of Hamlin Township, who also teaches adjunct at the college. “Everybody makes mistakes. If this would have happened to Joe Blow — it could have happened the third time — it would get swept under the rug. This is ridiculous. They are picking on a man simply because he has some status. Is this bad? Yes. It’s bad. People could have gotten killed. There could have been an insurance problem. If we have a building with a broken roof you fix it and try to make sure it doesn’t leak again. I think there should be some kind of reprimand but certainly don’t think we need to throw out a good person and disgrace West Shore Community College any more.”
Dillon needs to resign, at once, for GOD'S SAKE, if noone else!
NOT OPEN? Well, what does that tell us right away? That the proceeds of Justice are going to be denied? And for what? Another scape-goat that is part of the problem? This again sounds like a "fixed agenda" to me. And I for one, don't like it at all.
