Public Safety is in the realm of local government, the Police and Fire Departments being significant investments areas make to 'prevent us from hurting ourself'.  A summer lifeguard program costs less than a fourth of a full-time police officer here in Ludington.

With three deaths occuring last year at Stearn's Beach alone during times when no 'public announcement' warned anyone of danger, and with three confirmed lives rescued the previous year by lifeguards, one really has to question the judgment of how the money is being spent.  But if you wish to speak empty words and label people by incorrect presumptions, Christopher, you have that right.

Some may say, the city is responsible for every citizen death. The powers should prevent all our pain.  Wow. Let the state or government prevent us from hurting ourself.  That sound like the bubble of socialism.  Hmm, I ever wonder what happened to the capacity of common sense?  Control does not protect. It only directs public traffic. If one has no common sense, then I suppose they are destined to meet ruin, no matter what game plays itself. Why does one man drown, and the other lives?   Simple.  The one who lived, did not go into the water when the public announcement warned for danger.  Liberals.  Always want to blame some one for their ignorance.

Is this where some of that $40,000 in Water Safety expenses went, LOL?
