I just assume you all know about the strong local controversy going on right now. The PM Charter Township recently received a letter demanding our Pere Marquette memorial monument be torn down, or face legal action. Letter was sent by Michigan Assoc. Civil Rights Activists. A Muskegon strongly atheist visitor to that site fishing was insulted by the religious overtones, and reported it. Rights of Constitutional vs. Religion is the beef of no government public property shall display, same as nativity scene as of recent years. What do you all think?

In reading one of the articles about the monument and Pere Marquette's death, it seems that the original marker for his grave was a cross that was placed there by his companions so what exists now is basically the same thing that existed before America was Constitutionally founded.

On Thursday December 28 you can make your opinion known at the PM Twp Hall at the corner of PM Hwy and Iris Road.  I recently noted that you can generally tell when a law is bad by looking at how the title of the law paints it as being good.  It often holds true for so-called civil liberties and civil rights organizations trying to make themselves relevant by creating controversies over something like this.  Has any local ever looked at this before this came up and thought of it in any other way than a fitting monument honoring a famous Jesuit priest/explorer/missionary who reportedly died there?

This is what happens when you violate People's Freedoms for so long' The People begin to challenge things they can win. A divided country will not stand. And, many who have felt this exclusion will rise from the depths of hell to fight. My comments over the last 7 years on these local forums has sarcastically, always been the same. "If you continue to oppress the People, the People will revolt until the States and Local Governments are broke. Until, everything that never mattered, now does matter.  We have given our comments, arguments, and advise to those in charge to make these changes and challenge them to abide by the Constitutional Laws. The People can no longer just be the targets of Our tyrannical one-sided society. The People must challenge "Any and All" wrong doings and violations to Our Rights. We Must be protected by Our US Constitutional Rights! Groups like the Atheists will come forward. They will challenge and most likely win by the fear of cost alone. This is why this Group Challenges Accountability and Transparency in Our local Government. We must keep them honest to prevent reasonable butt hurt people from destroying our landscape. Holding the Torch with Peace and Dignity!

Unbelievable. Do you have any links to this. PM township had better tell these people to go #@&* themselves. If not then this won't be that last of it. This nonsense has to stop. That monument has been there for many years. The only reason there is a cross is because Pere Marquette, an explorer, was a Catholic priest.

I remember a few years back when Manistee claimed to be the burial spot for Father Marquette.
