I can see why they wouldn't want the water anyway, lead would slow them down.

Amusing, but haven't you heard, Willy?  The Lakestride is a half marathon, and this year they have decided to halve that, due to respiratory tract concerns, and call it the Taintstride Quarter Marathon.  Instead of having stations where they hand out water to passing runners, this year they will also feature oxygen tents.
