Thanks for that info, Willy, I do remember some roads among the dunes from before, but these seemed to be used very recent, the material seemed somewhat fresh, and the inroad seemed a little more deeper than before.  I would like to see those photos you have archived to try and figure out why the City DPW is manipulating beautiful Stearn's Park in such a non-aesthetic way and at much cost to the taxpayers.  Anybody know the answer?

I went back in my photo archives and found some older photos that shows the "roads" into the dunes have been there for quite a while. I even have photos of front loaders back there dumping debri on that same pile which was hauled off at a later date.

Worse, Aquaman, is that the dramatic changes are being performed without any public input rather than the typical, unilateral public outcry and outrage that this forum supplies after the change is made. 

Check out another crazy thing going down at the beach.  The one large dune at the park which the City 'leaders' have some intent to level, replant and put in a wide concrete walkway across its length for a half of a million dollars, is being prepped for just that.  A path is cut into the dune just north of Ludington Avenue's terminus parking area:

Can anyone explain the sudden, (last few years), COL's obsession with making dramatic changes to our Stearns beach? As a local all my life, I always appreciated the park just the natural way it's been. Updating bathrooms and picnic tables along with new paving is expected and routine. But, this obsession with changing the natural landscape, while the DNR says absolutely nothing, is not in line with what they would be doing if it were a private beach at all!

A handicap access walkway is a good idea but not how this has been installed. It should have been installed like the north ramp. Does the ramp run along the breakwater then extend northward or does it start at the breakwater? Is there a wheel chair ramp at the breakwater? If a handicapped individual must use the breakwater to access the beach walkway then that creates it's own safety issues by forcing folks to use the  breakwater that is clearly mark as being hazardous.
