I invite anyone to take a look at the records of this year, and so provide a link to a site that has that information plotted out.  They will find that since September 9, 2013 (when the fences started being erected) the maximum wind has only got above 20 mph twice.  On Sept. 28 (22 mph) and Oct. 1 (26 mph), when the wind was from the south or south/southeast.  Strong winds only concern the City when it has a western component, due to the geography of Ludington and that helpful sand dune at the south of Stearn's Park.

Translation for our village leaders:  you're shooting yourself in the foot when you fence the park prematurely.  It's hard to quantify how many tourists we've sent to other places due to this three year old policy of tying up Ludington's number one natural resource in early September. 

Meteorology is advanced enough that they can prepare for windy conditions a couple days before it reaches us, and if it's bad enough, as Aquaman says, they will have to do the same clean-up maneuvers anyhow (with the added effort of either working around or dismantling the fences).

They always use drifting sand as the excuse. Methinks easy hit the head on the nail best. Last year the sand drifted very badly across the entire outer drive, thus creating a big cleanup despite the snow fences, so, in effect, they accomplished nothing by doing this. Go figure!

Ain't it the truth. 

But I'm just kind of curious why the City leaders would discourage the tourist dollars coming into town during the late summer/early fall, when they spend a lot of time, money and effort during the 100 days of summer trying to overstuff us with tourists?
