A man posted this video of "a Greensboro police officer POI J. R. Vail, Badge #29 using intimidation and retaliation to get even with me for filming him 10 minutes earlier." What is telling is the disparity of comments on the Youtube page, seemingly divided equally among those who think the citizens were abusive towards the cop, and the others who thought the cop was abusive towards the citizens. Assuming the annotations on the film are factual, what do you think?

Today's police need to get used to the fact that they will be filmed during encounters by folks either interested in accountability or less noble ideals.  While I may not like being on a multitude of cameras whenever I enter a major store, there's not a lot I can do about it rather than rationalize that their intrusion on my privacy at least may have the positive effect of deterring crime and inevitably showing my innocence of any wrongdoing.

But if you think about it, that's exactly why you may want to film police.  I automatically distrust any police officer that objects to someone unobtrusively filming them in the course of their duties.  As they say, if you're not guilty of anything why would you mind, officer?

It appears time after ugly time in videos taken by ordinary citizens. Police abuse and brutality. No judge or jury can ever disagree with their own eyes when they witness actual videos that show the truth. That is clearly why the police are hell bent on stopping any private videos that may reveal their true actions. To those with the guts and savvy to continue to video cops in the course of their duty, and hopefully not be seen doing it, hooray for justice and changes needed long overdue in this regard.

The guy taking the video was looking for trouble. The cop should have moved on and left things well enough alone.
