Pontiac Police Question Man for Hands in Pocket in Freezing Weather

Recent video out of Pontiac, Michigan (where LPD Chief Barnett and LPD Officer Sailor served before Ludington) show the police asking a man about why his hand are in his pockets when the temperature is below freezing. Officer says that some people got nervous and called 911 when they saw the black man walking down the sidewalk with his hands in his pockets. The officer then shows he can film too by whipping out his own personal camera.
One wonders whether the videographer got nervous himself when the officer reached inside his coat.

I think the 911 system is a big part of the problem nowadays. All too many use it way too often for no other reason than it's easy to access and complain about anything that doesn't appear kosher to the individual. The fact that the 911 system requires a response by a PD officer, no matter the insignificance of the complainer, has made many LE officers overreact when coming to the scene. Wasting resources and time of LE is a steady and repeated problem all too often imho. When PD's were called direct, a qualified PD operator would determine if a response was needed. Nowadays, that, as we saw in the Marble case, wasn't necessary at all.

There was an incident a while back where a man was sitting on a porch with a hose sprayer. A neighbor called and said a man with a gun was sitting on his neighbors porch. When the police arrived they thought the man had a gun and shot him. I can understand the mix up but the police should take no action until they determine if any law has been broken or there exist a true threat. The police "assume" there is a problem and many times over react before knowing what is true situation. What police dept. would send out an officer because someone called in a complaint of a person walking with his hands in his pockets?
