I would always suggest wearing spikes while climbing around on the ice. Not only can a person slip and fall on the ice, causing severe injuries but they can fall into the water where the survival rate is only a few minutes. I came close to sliding off the ice out at the lighthouse a couple of years ago and vowed never to walk out there again without shoe spikes. your right, it's beautiful but dangerous.
I was out at the state park near their beach house earlier today, and it looks pretty much the same, minus the lighthouse of course. It's very pretty when you climb out on the shore ice and see where the water meets the ice, but a little dangerous too. Thanks for the timely picture.
