Ludington Fleet's Path of Leased Resistance

February saw the topic of leasing the fleet of 41 (numbers 40 and 43 have also been used) vehicles used by the City of Ludington (COL) come to the Ludington City Council for the first time.  This ambitious scheme was proposed as a means for the COL to replace its practice of buying their vehicles with the practice of leasing, and we were told the fantastic story that this would be saving us tons of money ($500,000) by the end of ten years and allow all city employees and officials to drive cars…See More

The Camera-Shy Deputy and His Dispensation of Unequal Justice

Let's say that you are a Mason County deputy and that you once served on another department and did what many people would consider totally unethical and corrupt behavior at a traffic stop.  Let's say that you did that while on camera and your police chief saw nothing wrong with it and let you keep your job without any discipline at all.  If you were a smart police officer, you would likely try to stay on that department as long as possible because you have a considerably long history of…See More

Ludington City Council, February 23, 2026: Paying the Pirate 131 Doll-arrrs

The February 23, 2026 meeting of the Ludington City Council (agenda packet) had a deceivingly full bottom-heavy docket of 18 action items, but that was primarily because it involved the routine of approving annual events sponsored by the DDA, Jaycees, and the local chamber.  They were all…See More

Hamlin Censure: A Bridge Too Far?

To say that the current Hamlin Township Board of Trustees is philosophically divided would be an understatement, as one sees ample evidence of it whenever they have gone to a meeting over the last two years.  Contentious meetings have been the norm and so when one reviews the agenda packet for the February 12, 2026 meeting they see a lot of potential for conflicts,…See More

The Culture Clash Between Ludington City Leaders and Citizens

At the February 9th, 2026 meeting of the Ludington City Council, a trio of councilors made some remarks at the end of the meeting, after the time of public comment, regarding the scandalous cover-up of the Mendez incident, where an off-duty LPD officer obviously engaged in impaired driving was stopped after committing multiple traffic infractions…See More

A Superbowl Between Ideologies

Perhaps the only thing more uninspiring than watching a Superbowl where neither team scored a touchdown in the first three quarters of a game that wasn't competitive at all, even until the end, was the halftime show.  We will explore the entertainment, that was decidedly as uninspiring as the game itself-- but first let's look at the underlying theme which indicated that entertainment was being supplanted by a political message.  In large black letters on a white screen, we saw a disturbing…See More

New to this site.  You are well informed and write superbly.  Is this your site/'invention''?

I am in Ludington every couple of weeks.  Likely to continue into 2026.  Also grew up in Ludington.

Best/only strong resource to get better in touch with Ludington.  Thank you!

Louise, in the upper right corner of the main page you will see your name and an "inbox (1 new)" link under it.  Click on that and you'll see a message from me.  Click on that, and then reply in that same space.  This will be private messaging between you and me.  I will use my resources to try and verify your claims; our sheriff's office is remarkably cloaked in secrecy (more so than the COL) since KIm Cole assumed the position of sheriff.

Ive heard that a local corrections officer got fired for sleeping with an inmate while on duty and another got fired for falsifying his time card, also A deputy Sargent recently got demoted. What is going on at our local sheriffs office and why is none of this being reported?

I'm curious about something and have not been able to find an answer. I'm hoping you may know the answer. Is it 'usual practice' to use a person's full name in the body of an op-ed?
