The kiddo and I went and saw this tonight 12-2-11 and had a very nice girls night out (wouldn't expect the boys to tag along to a play!).

Kids review quotes from her first play (aside from a dora thing in GR too many years ago to truly remember)"awesome, extraordinary".

I would warn anyone that if you get balcony tickets it is quite warm up there so dress light!

Great family fun and get there early to checkout the art gallery located in the same building. it's really cool.

I know how both stories end, so I will save a few bucks and check out the holiday school productions in the area for 'culture'.  If I didn't have to save my pennies and the events were closer, it does sound like a good time.

Can you put up a list of the local stuff going on?

I'll see what I can get; I've already went to a couple I was obliged to.  I almost always have a good time though, as do the amateur actors and actresses.

In the meantime, I'd suggest checking in with local elementary schools, because most grade levels put out a music program of some sort before the year ends, and most office personnel probably have a good idea of what's going on.

Went to Interlochen for Nutcracker last night, wow, did not realize til I was on the phone ordering tix that it was so far up north, almost had a heart attack when I realized we needed to leave so early to get there on time. The performers did a great job, but i  must say that ballet's are not for me, at least not after a days work and long drive!

I guess knowing what the play was about would have helped because me & the kid were a bit clueless about what was going on even though it gave a brief overview in the program. When she asked "do they talk in this" I had to chuckle, I guess it was not the same as the "Barbie Nutcracker" cartoon. Not sure what she was expecting, a musical I think. After the drive I was really surprised about a customer at work last winter, she had heard about us and came all the way from Benzonia to have us do her repairs, meaning she had to drive down, drop off and get a loaner then come back for pickup! i guess that is a compliment but wow what a drive!

But it was well worth the experience, even if it is not our thing it was a very nice performance!

Did the performers do a good job?  Were they students of IAA?

It would be interesting to see whether (as part of our cultural economic development, of course), we could gainfully bus troupes of performers from Interlochen down these ways to perform out at WSCC or at the new Ludington Area Arts Center.

I believe some of the performers were Interlochen students but not all as there was an age range in the ballet.

Yes the performers did a very nice job. I just realized that ballet's are not my thing, but the performers were very good.
