The Mason County Press (among other local reports, by WMOM, the COLDNews and others) reports that on Wednesday April 3 at 9:00 AM the LPD is going to have a press conference at the Ludington City Council chambers at City Hall concerning the latest on Baby Kate news.  Chief Mark Barnett stated that the new information is related to the use of forensic methods in the investigation.  That's all that will be released at this point.

A Mason County jury in April 2012 found Sean Michael Phillips, now 23, of Victory Township, guilty of unlawful imprisonment in the disappearance of his daughter, Katherine Shelbie-Elizabeth Phillips, on June 29, 2011. Phillips was later sentenced to prison for 10 to 15 years, the longest possible sentence allowed by law. Phillips is appealing his conviction and sentencing.

The case then transitioned to a homicide case, police and prosecutors said immediately after Phillips was sentenced. In a joint statement June 5, 2012, the day of the sentencing, Barnett and other police officials predicted that “additional charges” against Phillips would be issued.

At that time, Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola said tiny seeds that police found in Phillips’ tennis shoes had been germinated in hopes of determining what plants they were, thereby possibly narrowing the search areas for the baby’s remains, if she is dead.

In September 2012, a letter surfaced publicly that appeared to have been written by Phillips from prison to the baby’s mother, Ariel Courtland, admitting that he killed the baby but claiming it was an accident. Spaniola at the time said circumstantial evidence indicated the letter was genuine but said it was only one part of the homicide investigation.

News Flash:  For those hoping for a resolution in the Baby Kate Case there will not be any tomorrow at the press conference.  The City has put up a link to an application for a June forensic search to be conducted by a botanical search team.  It looks as if they will be discussing that they have narrowed down the type of habitat where Sean's shoes may have been.

What a complete waste of time and taxpayer money.  A 15 minute press conference talking about seed forensics and nothing new.  In fact, they limited the questions to seed forensics.  If I would have went there, I would have been hard-pressed not to do what this lady did:
