Sheriff's Office Finds Bones in Riverton Township

Human remains have been found in Riverton Township, however, investigators have no idea whether they are human or animal, or adult or children according to Kim Cole.  We need new investigators, I think, if they can't determine the difference between animal and human bones and between an adult and a child's bones on inspection.  Particularly when they call them human remains.  This is a great example of our area's law enforcement diligence in getting out information to the public in a rational manner.  We will try to follow this story as it develops.

RIVERTON TWP. — Human remains have been found in Riverton Township near the corner of Chauvez and Morton roads. Sheriff Kim Cole said detectives are on scene and the bones have been turned over to Dr. Marc Keen, Mason County medical examiner.

Cole said investigators did not know whether the bones were human or animal, adult or children’s bones.

Law enforcement officials have been organizing a search in June for the remains of Katherine “Baby Kate” Phillips, the 4-month-old who was taken by her biological father, Sean Phillips in June 2011. Since that time Phillips was sentenced for unlawful confinement of the girl. After his sentencing, last summer, Ludington Police Department announced it was opening a murder investigation in relation to the Baby Kate case.

If you can get some data on that, Albino, let us have it.  The only thing I know about Todd Hodges was he ran afoul of the law back in 1983 and paid the consequences.

Actually when I think about it,  there are several who went missing over the years and never located. I pray they can identify this person and give the family closure even if it is 20 years later.

Also as mentioned earlier, there have been unreported situations especially since we do have so many from Mexio that come to this area to find work.  I am sure they didn't always report death in those camps. It could be a missing hunter who never came and whos kids grew up thinking their dad abandoned them.  Then again it could be a runaway from Detroit or Chicago or grand rapids who's family would never imagine them here. It could be anything else as well, a homeless person, suicide, drugs or myrid of other causes. Let's think that right now they are looking to all those possibilities before they release any information. Pictures of a piece of skull for the public would not help identifying until they can recreate a replica to publish. I hope they can get DNA

There is a new report from the anthropologist who has now taken a look at all the bones that the only human bone is the one that is a fragment of the skull.  http://fox17online.com/2013/05/23/anthropologist-bones-definitely-f...

If they have a valid reason for not releasing a picture of the skull fragment, I'd like to hear it.  Presuming there was a valid reason, I would at least think it would be helpful in solving the problem if the public could at least have it described.

Consider, it is a fragment of a skull, meaning that other fragments would exist, meaning maybe other people have seen what could be the missing piece(s) in another area (presuming they have thoroughly searched this area) and did not make the connection that it was part of a human skull.  Likewise, the forensic anthropologist should be able to give a reasonable guess as to the stage of development of the skull and certain other details about the owner, unless the piece is very degraded and/or small.

Identification of the owner of that skull is the first order of business and keeping most all of the known information among a handful of people doesn't help reach that objective.
