A short time ago, we shared a 'letter to the editor' from the reader's of the City of Ludington Daily News (COLDNews).  The COLDNews titled that installation 'Term limits serve a purpose'  and was worth sharing with the readers of the Ludington Torch.  This week, another reader, a self-claimed 'newbie' to the area, named Gary Klingler of Ludington also shared their feelings on the topic of term limits, while also sharing a valid "complaint" on why the County's partisan elections this year left him feeling disgusted, as most contested elections were resolved in Republican primary elections.

The COLDNews, in their usually inspired, original way of introducing their material, called the column 'Term Limits Serve a Purpose', and is shown in its entirety below.

Showing once again that the "Reader's Forum" eclipses any journalistic product that the editorial board of the COLDNews has put out in some time, a second quality piece was included by Aldon Maleckas, former candidate for the Seventh District County Commissioner, and much more intellectually and politically honest than long-time commissioner and hair clipper Tom Posma.  It is a parable about the wind industry, equating the types of energy we utilize as employees in a company, with us the people as the consumers of their end product.  The metaphor works well, I think.

I like the way Aldon Maleckas explained that, easy to understand without a bunch of tech-talk specific to the industries mentioned. He should be a teacher, I think he would be good at it!

As far as term limits, why would anyone want to get rid of them unless they are specifically benefiting from the lack of term limits. In private business who cares if the same Board of Directors or CEO runs the company for 50 years, if they are successful so will the business follow suit. but no one is forced to buy that product, we have choices.

But in government we have no choices, and eliminating term limits makes sure of it.

Aldon Maleckas' father, Aldon 'Frank' Maleckas was a long-time teacher for MCC High School up to the late 1970s, teaching the higher maths and sciences, and his son seems like a chip off the old block; as we seen in his run for commissioner, he has a command of science and technology.

"why would anyone want to get rid of them unless they are specifically benefiting from the lack of term limits"

Exactly why one needs to ask Heather Venzke-Tykoski, Kaye Holman, Treasurer Linda Rogers, Budde "Milan" Reed, Barry Neal, and the fifteen other petitioners what they seek to gain from having Mayor Henderson in for another term or two.  I think it's fairly obvious to me.  Reed, Neal, and other businessman have greatly benefitted from his public-private 'partnerships' , and stand to lose their cut of local money, local support for state and federal grants if someone else gets in that position.  The Venzke-Tykoski, Holman, and other officials stand to lose their accumulated influence and power, maybe even their jobs, if someone else gets that position.
