Motorcyclist Dead by Patrol Officer's Negligence Either Way

The Macomb Daily reported on a July 22, 2015 crash involving a St. Clair Shores police car and a motorcycle on Eight Mile Road that according to officials:

"(The biker) was riding a motorcycle that collided with a police car driven by an officer who was making a U-turn on Eight Mile Road, between Interstate 94 and Beaconsfield Road, at approximately 9:30 p.m. to perform a traffic stop."

It's been later learned that the police car was travelling eastbound, so consider this map showing the presumed path of the car (in red) and the presumed path of the biker (in blue).

It should be noted that the damage to the police vehicle was on the driver's side according to pictures, leading one to presume this, since the investigating agencies have been loth to reveal more information since, or any sort of statements by witnesses, including the officer in the accident.

But six days after the initial report, with the Michigan State Police conducting the investigation, we get from them a vague statement, which seems to contradict what was originally reported and hadn't been contested since.  On July 28, 2015, Mlive reports that the:

"St. Clair Shores police officer was eastbound on Eight Mile when he saw a vehicle pass in the opposite direction with no headlights on, state police Lt. Calvin Hart told MLive Detroit. While following the vehicle in preparation to make a traffic stop, the other vehicle turned left off Eight Mile and the officer followed, at which point Bush crashed into the front-passenger side of the police car, Hart said."

No mention of a U-turn conducted by the officer, which would have had to have been conducted with a vehicle going the opposite direction.  But then MSP investigator Hart says the police car, in pursuit of the other vehicle, turns left in front of the motorcycle, changing the dynamics of the situation by noting that the motorcycle was going eastbound, as seen in this modified diagram:

Either way the facts behind this investigation are spun, this is clearly a case where the police officer, in a non-pursuit, non-emergency situation as their police chief freely admits, turns in front of a motorcyclist and causes their death.  That motorcyclist, 20 year old James Bush, pictured below, had his life snuffed out because apparently a police officer was more intent on catching someone else who broke the rules than following the rules himself.

Bush, a 2013 Lake Shore High School graduate and hunter, was driving to his mother's home for dinner after having left his job when the crash occurred.

"Bush was a free spirit who would befriend anyone he met," says the description for an online fundraiser set up by Bush's girlfriend to help the family with funeral expenses. "He was such a lovable man who enjoyed living on the edge."

As of Tuesday morning, $12,385 had been raised for Bush's family to pay funeral costs.

The family of James Bush has filed a lawsuit against the officer and the SCSPD, following a sluggish investigation by the MSP which took three months to do.  A dashcam video was finally released before September 11th, which shows the officer turning in front of the motorcycle, led to the suit alleging gross negligence by the officer whose zest to make a traffic stop led to this death.  See the disturbing video here:  http://www.fox2detroit.com/news/local-news/36684533-story

Will the county prosecutor take the easy route and let the officer remain unpunished?  Motorcyclists take note.
