Here's a baseball stat for Manager Jim Leyland:
Playoff Statistics (through 7 games):
Valverde: 2.3 Innings pitched, 7 Runs, Runs/game: 27.00
Rest of Detroit staff: 62.3 Innings pitched, 8 Runs, Runs/game: 1.16
Adapt accordingly.
All four first round playoff series went to the maximum amount of games (5) in all contests. The last had an amazing comeback by the St. Louis Cardinals. Behind 6-0 they crept back and won 9-7 just minutes ago. SF Giants, Detroit and the NY Yankees are all going on.
Best of luck to our TIG's, they are still the best in my heart and mind.
Congratulations to Miguel Cabrera who won Baseball's coveted triple crown, leading the league in RBIs, HRs, and Batting Average. This is the first time it has been accomplished since Carl Yasztremski did it 45 years ago. The Tigers go into the playoffs against the usual nemesis, the New York Yankees. With last year's and this year's MVP. Look out world.
Unless Detroit expands the outfield of their park by a few hundred miles, I guess we'd have to settle for a Lake Michigan- Lake St. Clair series.
