I agree William.

I really don't mind what political orientation Carl Sagan associates with. I just love his insightful intellect, and his elegant rhetoric. I'm a strong supporter for the space program. Cutting funds for NASA, and ending our shuttle program was one of Obama's worst decisions. Sagan would probably be furious to see how we've slowly been giving up our position as the world's largest sources of new technology, thoughts, and sense of discovery.

That's funny X because I got the distinct impression that he would be a fine progressive thinker for the Democrat Party. I guess I'm just to Libertarian oriented to agree with a lot he says.

I loved Carl Sagan's Cosmos series when I was growing up, and respect most of his views.  I think you may have pegged his viewpoint as more government-centric than it is, Willy.  In the interview with Ted Turner, he speaks of the ills of having poverty, but stresses the government's assistance should be to make the poor folks self-reliant, so they can lift themselves out of poverty.  Before that he stresses the proper use of skepticism in science, skeptical education of the people, and the distrust of political authority (6:24 in).   He could probably go to a Tea Party rally or chat meaningfully with Ron Paul.
