Alice Cooper Rocks Manistee, Cooper Malice Rocks Judge Primary

On Thursday June 26, 2014, Alice Cooper, famous rock and roll musician known for his wild theatrics and outrageous attire, appeared at the Little River Casino in Manistee and entertained the large crowd with his antics.

During the performance, a guillotine cut off his head and the executioner strutted about the stage with the disembodied head of the musician.  He was turned into a Frankenstein monster later in the performance.  He capered about the stage wearing a feminine boa while he belted out the familiar tune "Welcome to my Nightmare".  (read more here).

Earlier that day, less than thirty miles away, 51st Circuit Court Judge Richard I. Cooper wore a silky robe as he effectively sang "Welcome to my nightmare" to two of the candidates vying for his job, and going up against his own heir-apparent, his son Craig Cooper.  Oddly, if we take a look at the recent history of Judge Cooper's court, he has sided with plea deals struck by Prosecutor Paul Spaniola and defense attorneys in criminal cases that come before him over Spaniola's six years as prosecutor.

But in the last month alone, he has struck down three plea deals made by Spaniola, opting in every case to imply that the prosecutor's deal is too soft.  The first occasion had the judge suggest more prison time for a habitual DUI offender, over the deal established.  The second occasion involved the mother of Eric Knysz, where the judge thought at least 18 months to five years in prison would be more suitable than one year in county jail.

The latest involves a non-violent 'habitual petty thief' whose latest heist amounted to between $200 -$1000.  The deal arranged between Prosecutor Spaniola and fellow judicial candidate Attorney David Glancy in his role as the county's public defender amounted to the larcenist receiving one year of jail time.  Not good enough said Judge Cooper, as related in this City of Ludington Daily News article in today's newspaper:

Can there be much question now, after this third episode, that Judge Cooper is trying to portray himself, and by extension the heir to his bench, son Craig Richard Cooper, as being the ones to take these dangerous criminals off the streets, heck, even take them out of our jails, and put them in our prisons for a good long time.

The old rocker of the 51st Circuit Court is showing that school is not out for summer, as he schools Spaniola once again on who's the daddy, and brings David Glancy in for his own tutoring.  No more Mr. Nice Guy.  No more squeaky clean.

Got to meet Alice back when he appeared at Summer Celebration in Muskegon, probably like 8 years ago I think... really nice guy, was a bit surprised actually... everyone that got backstage got a minute or 2 with Alice and a picture if they brought their camera.

We just saw Alice Thursday nite in Manistee too Dave. Quite a performance by the old master of horror. His entire stage was filled with Halloween backdrops and equipment. Fantastic musicians one and all with him. Then Ludington has it's own Cooper horror show for free everyday. Quite a performance by the old master of deceit to have his heir-apparent get the nod for the August primary. Can't remember any time during his 40 years there that he has been in such disagreement with his prosecutor, at least not until THIS VERY ELECTION YEAR! Shame on you judge, for cheap theatrical tactics!
