Anyone going to be watching the President's job speech tonight?

I'm working so I won't be.. although typically I don't watch presidential speeches anyway as they tend to be to long and boring.

If Obama has any hope of his plan succeeding, he needs to really hit a homerun tonight. Unfortunately, from what's been leaked and from what's been said about the speech by people that have some knowledge of it, its not going to be a homerun.. more like a double maybe. What might hurt the president the most in regards to the speech is that the speech has been built up for nearly a month as being a big deal but has since been getting downplayed by some democrats. One thing that bothers me about the whole thing is the president feeling the need to make it a 'big show' by giving the speech in front of the members of congress... basically he wants to have his fans there to back him up I think. Of course the president's need to give the speech in front of congress set off a bit of a controversy last week when it was initially announced that the speech would be given on Wed (last night).. it was quickly pointed out that there was already a political event, a republican debate, set for that night that had been set for months. The White House seemed to claim it was simply a mistake... I don't know, in this day and age I am having a hard time believing that no one noticed anything about the debate.. I have a feeling that the different political sides know exactly whats going on with the others as far any events go. Anyway, what it really comes down to is if the speech was such an important speech, why is the president even waiting to give it? If its so important then this speech should of already been given from the oval office or from out on one of the White House lawns.

We shall see though what he has to say... if he wants to see a 2nd term, it better be good!

I'll be watching Green Bay beat the New Orleans Saints.......and luving it.
That's another thing.. by having to do the speech in front of congress, the President has limited himself on when his speech will be seen. Being that football does start tonight as you noted, a good portion of TV's will be turned onto that and the pregame activities. The president most likely has limited who will see the speech simply because he wanted to have the cheer section there for him... on the other hand they might of done it like they did because they already know the big speech isn't going to be answer to all our job problems and the less people that see the speech, the better.

Hopefully the presidents luck with his new job's effort goes better then the last one (aka The Stimulus Joke.. err... bill). One of the presidents favorite example's of how green industry would bring jobs just filed for bankruptcy. This is the only real problem I have with the whole green movement.. at this point its just not a sustainable industry. In time I think there will be many jobs, now isn't the time though.

Update: Solyndra announces it plans to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy, is suspending operations and seeks a reorganization. Click here for the company's full statement.

Solyndra, a major manufacturer of solar technology in Fremont, has shut its doors, according to employees at the campus.

"I was told by a security guard to get my [stuff] and leave," one employee said. The company employs a little more than 1,000 employees worldwide, according to its website.

Shortly after it opened a massive $700 million facility, it canceled plans for a public stock offering earlier this year and warned it would be in significant trouble if federal loan guarantees did not go through.

The company has said it will make a statement at 9am California time, though it's not clear what that statement will be. An NBC Bay Area photographer on the scene reports security guards are not letting visitors on campus. He says "people are standing around in disbelief." The employees have been given yellow envelopes with instructions on how to get their last checks.

Solyndra was touted by the Obama administration as a prime example of how green technology could deliver jobs. The President visited the facility in May of last year and said  "it is just a testament to American ingenuity and dynamism and the fact that we continue to have the best universities in the world, the best technology in the world, and most importantly the best workers in the world. And you guys all represent that. "

The federal government offered $535 million in low cost loan guarantees from the Department of Energy. NBC Bay Area has contacted the White House asking for a statement.

Some Republicans have been very critical of the loans.  "I am concerned that the DOE is providing loans and loan guarantees to firms that aren't capable of competing in the global market, even with government subsidies"  Florida Congressman Cliff Stearns told the New York Times.

My question is, why wasn't this speech given 3 years ago? He's just now getting around to talking about jobs because he and the Democrats were to busy shoving Obama care down our throats. And now they want another 1/2 tillion dollars. What the hell are these people thinking. What bothers me is that in the recent polls there are still around 43% of the people that support him. That's a lot of foolish people.

I was reading on the Drudge an article from the LA times, and even Calif. is starting to realize that this guy doesn't have a clue as to how to create  jobs. Also, nothing is on paper cause he knows it would never be approved, just another attempt at blaming some-one else for his failures (congress)

I tried, but no-one would co-operate. Waa waa waa pass the tissue

Obama's ideas on making jobs is to raise taxes and increase government spending.  Wrong answer.
