Houghton Lake Senior Citizen Shot by Police on Porch

Deja vu all over again up in Roscommon County?  About 28 hours after 68 year old retired teacher Bill Marble was shot by a currently unnamed Michigan State Trooper for being in possession of a gun on his own property, a 75 year old man named Bernard Adams was shot by an unnamed law enforcement officer under similar circumstances on his front porch early Thursday morning (video at link):

New details right now on a deadly standoff in Roscommon County.

The man killed by police was Bernard Adams.

Police say the standoff started this morning after a call for help, 2 people Adams lived with saying he threatened them with a gun.

The Northern Michigan Mutual Task Force set up a command center just down the street from the home, near the corner of Standard and Kennedy Streets in Houghton Lake.

Michigan State Police Houghton Lake Post Commander, Lt. John Card, says, "When he came out of the residence, he was holding a handgun, he was ordered repeatedly to put the handgun down, he did not, shots were fired. The subject then walked back into his residence and he was later found deceased in the residence."

And neighbors who knew Adams are surprised by the whole situation. James Dean, next door neighbor says, "He always seemed friendly, he always waved, always had a smile on his face, never ever would have expected this."

Investigators still aren't sure what may have prompted Adams to turn violent.

They hope evidence from the scene will answer some of those questions as the investigation continues.  (204 Standard Street, the crime scene, is the A point in below map)

As with Bill Marble, the news people have not been able to find anyone in the neighborhood or past acquaintances who have a bad word to say about Bernard Adams.
