How would I request a document from the school system thru to FOIA? its pertaining to a program at LAS that is state funded - the Great Start Readiness Program - and I want to request information on how a certain child qualified for that program - I think there is something falsified or something - both parent work for LAS district and I personally don't think the qualify for this program under state guidelines yet somehow he is still in the program (and assaulting kids in the mean time) so I am in the process of filing a complaint about the assaultive behavior, but want to get as much info as I can - and this is one thing I need.  Anyone know how to go about getting this info or filing a FOIA?

I think you will find privacy act protecting disabled or any student for that matter will trump FIOA info in this case.

Masonco can you correct me if I am wrong here? The above information is off of the MDE site so should be accurate. The way I read the intake flow chard the child maybe eligible just because he is a terrorist. And no I don't feel at all like this if fair to other students in the same program with no aggressive tendencies.

Ya I am thinking thats why he is allowed in the program - but dependant on income (which I'm pretty sure his parents make more then we do) they still have to have other qualifying factors for him to be able to be in the program.  And if he has been kicked out of other setting because of this behavior but it still continues - shouldn't something more be done about it? Obviously this program isnt what he needs - its just like any other preschool class except most of us are just above poverty income level but make too much for Five Cap.  So the privacy act protects this kid & I cannot find out why he is allowed to be in this program? I guess I can file a whistleblower or something and say the LASD is receiving $$ by fraud - then it would have to be investigated - I guess it happened in Texas - school officals were having parents lie on their GSRP application
Just looking at the Income Eligibility Guidelines as an example, 300% bracket of (FPL), Federal Poverty Level, a household of 4 is qualified with total annual income of $66,150, that alone does not bespeak of poverty nor low income to me, but the State thinks so? It also seems this program is for preschool work/preparations? I really didn't quantify what the program entails as far as education, or incentives for learning? Maybe someone can help? And what does a terrorist type have to do with this, and what would qualify one at that young age to be one? A lot of gaps for me thus far, nice links Guido. Thanks.

If you are asking about release of information regarding the child or family income, I believe they are protected. If the child is there because of behavior problems, then it is definitely a privacy issue.

Angela, if your child is going to be in the same school with the undisciplined child, I'd consider taking advantage of school of choice and send my child to Scottville schools.  The kids from Ludington that go to Scottville with dial a ride get discounts but you could probably carpool.

I do believe you could talk to a lawyer about the school allowing the child to endanger other children. Sometimes a letter from a noted lawyer gets them to sit and take notice.

Well I believe I shouldn;t be the one removing my child from anything to another school - he is not the problem so why should he move?  I work 3rd shift so going to Scottville & having to carpool wouldn't work - we only have one car right now & I walk to work (only 2 blocks away) so thats out of the questions.  I have already thrown the lawyer card out there, but I will go talk to one on Monday if after I go to the school and do not agree with what is going to be done about the situation......... so we will see.
I see this is another program the illegals qualify for because one of the criteria for obtaining this benifit provided by taxpayers is that the qualifying person comes from a household that has "primary home language other than English".  Good find Angela & Guido. I wonder how many money sucking programs are out there that we taxpayers no nothing about.
The reason I place the (flow chart) link in there is because of the way it is written I think if you make too much to qualify under the income brackets you still have a path into a program slot just because your child is a terrorist. Non income based.
And the income based approach to problems the governments come up with is ridiculous. In Detroit a 60K plus salary maybe a tad low based on cost of living. But do you know how many millions would be saved if it were based on the cost of living per locality rather than one size fits all ??
Well my son is in that program because we couldnt afford the $100 a month it cost to send him to "regular" preschool. None of the kids I know of in this program are from illegal families - they are just families who work/pay their bills etc.... but make too much for Five Cap but not enough to pay the $100 a month tuition plus other daycare costs........  My whole thing is I think this kid is in this program when he shouldn't be and I am trying to find out if my thinking is the truth or not - thats why I wondering about FOIA - but another parent told me that even though both this kids parents work at the High School, they don't make as much as I would think they do - plus they have a family of 4 so they can make up to $66000/yr.  So I dont know - I just want this situation dealt with - Remove the child from the classroom - but do not think the school district will do anything because his parents work for them.  I will fight - but it will be a fight on my hands.  I'd like to think that it's ok for my child to defend himself (because I think it is) but I have a feeling once he hits back - he will be the one who is labeld and thrown out of school

Angela

The other family pays taxes to. Why should they not be allowed to have their son there? Why can't every tax payer take advantage of the program? It's their money that's  paying for it.

because there are certain qualifications that they need to meet in order to take part of the program AND I don't think they do.  I believe there is some falsifications and I am determined to find them
I think you should concentrate on the behavior issue and adress that. Your going to make a life long enemy by digging into why the other people qualified. If the behavior is that bad then I'm sure the "school" will see that it is taken care of if you take your case to a higher level.
